For the developed and resourced country that we are, we are potentially going to be overtaking Italy and Spain by the looks of things.
Australia and other nations have death rates in double figures. They were smart to close borders and even close regions. Canada the same. Denmark, etc. The list goes on. South Korea have the situation under control.
We were warned about this. I feel like majority of those deaths could have been avoided.

Does not anyone realise that if a year ago someone said we'll have to put up taxes as we need around a 10000 or more of CCU beds and ventilators, also we need a grillion testing kits for an unknown virus, and ten trillion PPE sets would anyone, any govermet anywhere in the world of any politicazl colour have spent that?

Well would they have?.

HooplaHoopla · 03/04/2020 18:51

Ffs - That's the spirit! Flowers More like this please - less moaning, more positive action!

Blossomad · 03/04/2020 18:51

Just heard on the radio that if you are blood group 0 you will have a 10% better chance against disease potentially this virus also. If you have blood group A you will have a 10% added risk. Might explain the high incidence of Asian doctors being affected.

mochajoes · 03/04/2020 18:51

I wouldn't be surprised if the gov is hiding things from us. Would it be more beneficial to say "all your loved ones will die, we will run out of food & toilet paper & if you don't have a mask you're toast but don't panic & sit nicely indoors & watch Tiger King"

Fear is needed for compliance, too much fear is not good.

Random18 · 03/04/2020 18:52

Ffs that is so true!

HooplaHoopla · 03/04/2020 18:54

Justaboy I can hear the outcry, probably from the outcryers here along the lines of "The government are spending millions on something that might never happen, whereas I need XYZ right now. Who else is angry and embarrassed at a government who will spend millions on the "might never happen" rather than the "happening right now".... etc...

Germany Did

Of course Labour is as much to blame. They brought in the disastrous PFI iniative, which has financially crippled the parts of the NHS. We also wouldn't have a Conservative government if we'd had a decent Labour party to vote for

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

FYI this pandemic was Number 1 one the govts risk scale above Terrorism and war

The blame can't be placed on the medical experts

Surely a lot can be blamed on the idiots who treated closures as a bank holiday jolly and went off for Day trips to the beach, Snowdon, the lakes or who decided to take off to their holiday homes/rentals? Not forgetting all the people who felt the need to visit their mums on mother’s day for a family meal.

There are still idiots ignoring lockdown and putting others at risk. If they are that reckless then I say mobilise the army to shoot group gatherers on sight, let them take their chances either with COVID-19 or a sharp shooter rather than risk us sensible people. Wink

Seriously I’m furious- not embarrassed- that BJ took so long to to do anything, especially after the first reports of people ignoring advice.

I’m a HCP. With a seriously at risk household member who is isolated to a single room because I have to go out to work.

I have no doubt idiots will be making the most of the Easter bank holiday, whilst all our bank holidays (and teachers providing care for key workers) has been cancelled to deal with the current emergency.

On listening to a Sainsbury’s worker recently operating the till serving an older couple, who made a joke about essentials, snap “you’d be amazed what some people think are essential” I couldn’t help but wish things were more restricted. A bar of dairy milk, a pot of yogurt and a couple of bananas (that those shoppers had) is NOT essential ffs.

mochajoes · 03/04/2020 18:58

We've known about this since January

Known what though? China only reported their first death on 11/01, Wuhan wasn't in lockdown till 23/01 & the WHO declared a PHE on the 30/01 but our gov should have preempted all this?

Marieo · 03/04/2020 18:59

This is true, whatever your feelings about it, how many people said that they wouldn't vote labour because of Corbyn? Loads! Whether they were misled by the media or whatever is irrelevant really, because the fact is they didn't vote for them. PFIs are also awful, but that's another (expensive) debate.

mochajoes · 03/04/2020 19:00

That great to hear @Ffs, I think it's amazing what's been achieved & how hard some people are working.

mochajoes · 03/04/2020 19:01

There was a COBRA pandemic simulation in 2016, one in DAVOS in 2019, and WHO have been advising to prep since 2005. It’s been top of the Govts risk scale above terrorism and war for years. But carry on....

NewYearNewTwatName · 03/04/2020 19:03

Well I thought the PPE was part of any pandemic plan.

didn't someone post at link recently to a report from years ago that actually said we were not prepared for a pandemic, even there is legislation to make sure we have what we need? granted icu beds is difficult.

I joked to DH the other week that they struggled to get PPE equipment out of the warehouses on time, maybe because
no body knew where it was stored, and they were busy ringing round previous government MPs to see if the they knew, and pulling paper archives apart looking for an address Grin

SusieOwl4 · 03/04/2020 19:06

It’s so easy to be a critic and yet even when the shut down is bought in there are still LOTS of people who think they know better and are ignoring the rules . Perhaps it’s them that are causing the increased figures ?

And figures / death rates/ testing rates are difficult to compare unless you look at population figures and also take into account that not ALL countries are truthful .

Testing has to be proved accurate otherwise it’s a waste of time . And one day you are negative the next day you could have it .

The only thing I am embarrassed about is the distribution and sourcing of the correct PPE equipment for those on the front line and I think the nhs trusts should take responsibility for this . After all a lot of their managers are paid more than the PM .

mochajoes · 03/04/2020 19:06

@blossomad so they knew the pandemic that was coming would specifically affect lungs & require ventilators?

mochajoes · 03/04/2020 19:08

Ok.....so you are saying the gov should have locked down the country & closed borders before the WHO declared it an emergency because we have practiced for it?

SusieOwl4 · 03/04/2020 19:09

Well said ffs

I can assure people a lot of companies are taking action as well and switching manufacturing to help .

There are things going on in the background that you don’t know about .

CendrillonSings · 03/04/2020 19:12

That’s about the intellectual level many moaners are operating on, yes...

HooplaHoopla · 03/04/2020 19:14

Blossomed "a gazillion testing kits for an unknown virus"? Hmm Confused

That's... not how testing kits work.....

ZoeCM · 03/04/2020 19:16

I still can't believe Crufts went ahead just one month ago. It's a dog show, FFS.
