Why was it allowed??
Madness

Also bloody madness to go.

Because they are rich and powerful people.

Last week comedian Lee Mack and Camilla Parker Bowles' ex both said they had caught CV from Cheltenham.

There was a post on here from a woman who said she contracted it after a friend went to Cheltenham and stayed at hers (though why she put him up knowing the risk beggars belief)

These are three cases we know about - each infecting how many others?

And out of those 20k people at Cheltenham how many stories like this are there?

It was madness. Jenny Harries, with her comments that large outdoor events were safe when anyone working in public health knows it's the close proximity on the tubes/trains/motorways service stations/pubs etc that's the risk, was either utterly incompetent or knowingly reckless with public safety. She should resign on that alone.
It's almost like they wanted us to all get it...Hmm

It was also incomprehensibly ill advised to allow thousands of Madrid football fans into Liverpool on 11th March, the same time as the Cheltenham Meeting.

Yes, and all the concerts & sporting events that went ahead. So much unnecessary community spread.

LouLouLoo · 03/04/2020 14:01

I agree that Cheltenham shouldn’t have gone ahead and if it had been a week later it wouldn’t have done.

Nobody knows for sure where they’ve caught it from though, although it makes sense that Cheltenham was a breeding ground.

Not forgetting Crufts either.

middleager · 03/04/2020 14:04

And there was a large Stereophonics gig in cardiff as late as March 15.

Not forgetting Crufts either.

Agreed. It's a huge indoor event, and I still have no idea why it was allowed to go ahead.
