Hi Has anyone volunteered?

I have and I am marked as on duty in the app but I have had zero alerts or calls at all. Am I doing something wrong? I am very happy to be helping people, so want to make sure I have it all sorted properly.
thanks

My local council have set up a service plus we have the Covid-19 groups plus local next door sites, face book and others will be out helping.
There doesn’t appear to have been much co ordination sadly.
Everyone is doing a great job I’m sure.

DH & a friend both signed up; neither has been asked to do anything. There was followup to say they especially needed folk who had recent DBS (friend has this & still no requests).

I signed up to do dog-walking for the Cinnamon Trust & am doing that 2x/week

Here's something you can do if you want to help:

lljkk · 24/04/2020 12:06

FFS, jobhunter, are you obsessed with your soapbox issue or what?? Working for Jeremy Howard, maybe?

Egghead68 · 24/04/2020 12:26

I am an extremely vulnerable shielding person who finally, after a lot of difficulty, managed to sign up for help from NHS Volunteer Responders 6 days ago (with medication and taking my rubbish out of my flat). I’ve heard nothing from them since. I got in touch with them and they said it can take 14 days to be contacted!!! What’s the delay? There are so many volunteers waiting around d to help. The whole thing is a joke.

I received a hi-vis vest and letter today. Just need an alert now

@Lljkk

it is possible to change things... see all the wonderful people who signed up to be nhs volunteers.

Egghead68 · 24/04/2020 12:47

@jobhunter7 do you really think this scheme is proving a success?

jobhunter7 · 24/04/2020 12:51

@Egghead68

If you are referring to the NHS scheme, in its roll-out. I am unsure, but it did show what can be done. Look how quickly people said they would help. If they were directed to get behind their sewing machines perhaps, which wouldn't require much effort on Matt Hancock et al's part...

We have a very good Covid19 support group set up by the town council. They got it together very quickly, teamed up with the food bank, community fridge and local food producers and deliver fantastic value for money or free food boxes and sort all kinds of other help and support.

If you require help, contact your town council and look on Facebook

When the government finally got their act together and started asking for volunteers, local people started signing up for the NHS volunteers. The NHS volunteers have been given nothing to do because the local council is already doing it. Some have been persuaded to join with the council, others are sitting at home moaning on spotted in... that they have nothing to do.

Maybe those unused volunteers should be making masks. Three quarters of the world's population seem to think it is a good idea

@PestymcPestFace

You or I can post on these boards and it may help a little... but I am sure it'd be much more effective if Boris Johnson or Matt Hancock just asked everybody to do it... and hundreds of thousands of people have always said they want to help.

Is anyone else having trouble with the app today? Mine keeps saying it's closed. Not that I've had any alerts yet!
