Swine Flu Super-immunity

Can anyone shed any anecdotal light on this? This was first reported on in 2011 - it talks about how people who contracted Swine Flu appear(ed) to have super immunity to a range of other flu viruses. Just wondering if anyone who’s had Swine Flu has also had Coronavirus?

Whether that's correct or not re swine flu antibodies protecting against a range of influenza strains, it has no relevance to Coronavirus which belongs to a completely different class of virus. Confused

That's interesting as ds11 got swine flu when he was little and was v ill try is the only one of us that appears not to have had Corona. I just assumed as he's the youngest he may have had it and been asymptomatic , the other 4 of us have had it and didn't have swine flu.

Or maybe the rest of you had some type of flu, not Coronavirus?

The article is interesting re flu vaccines but in the context of CV it's analogous to having a master key to a completely different door.

@ErrolTheDragon So any comparison to Flu is actually totally misplaced for this one? Is that fair to say? Is swine flu a coronavirus? (Sorry - I can read up on this.)

Yes

Is swine flu a coronavirus?

No.

But I did find your link interesting! Smile

Given DH and I were both working with confirmed cases it's pretty likely we have had it. We will never know re DS I guess though

Camomila · 03/04/2020 11:51

Flu is caused by influenza viruses (usually influenza A or influenza B), not a type of corona virus.

FWIW I had flu during the swine flu pandemic, and have now probably got coronavirus (or flu again, who knows?)

FloraGreysteel · 03/04/2020 11:52

I had swine flu and I've just had coronavirus.

Postspecific · 03/04/2020 12:47

Fair enough. And sorry to those of you feeling poorly - Hope you feel better soon.

Bunkum I'm afraid
I have corona virus and I had swine flu.
I was really really ill with swine flu

jellybean85 · 03/04/2020 13:42

I had swine flue and almost certainly just getting over coronavirus although not hospitalised so no test, I had fever, cough, agonising sore throat chest and general body pains along with funky conjunctivitis eye and loss of taste. Sadly although it would be nice to find a magic answer I don't think this is it 😞
