Are you taking your DCs outside (i.e. leaving your home) for exercise?

Are you going out at all, for a cycle, walk or whatever? We still are. DD is 6 and we go either on the tag-a-long or occasionally the scooter, sometimes cycle then walk in the park for a short while, keeping well away from everyone else and touching nothing.

I'm getting nervous, though

Are you doing this? Or have you stopped going outside completely?

We go out most days for a walk in the country. Sometimes they cycle. We rarely see anyone and can pass with distance easily if we do. I wouldn't take them out if I lived in a big city or a crowded area.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 02/04/2020 23:05

I live in a city, but not right in centre. I have been doing short walks with DC (11 and 13), it's usually easy to avoid people on the pavements, although sometimes this means crossing to other side of road, and being careful about routes.

HasaDigaEebowai · 02/04/2020 23:07

No, we have a garden for fresh air so there’s no need. Perfectly possible to exercise without mixing with others

Bunnybigears · 02/04/2020 23:08

We have no outside space so yes we go on a daily bike ride

Toothsil · 02/04/2020 23:10

Yes but we live in the country and meet very few people. I don't think I would if we lived somewhere busy.

Doyoumind · 02/04/2020 23:12

Yes. We have a small garden but I feel it's important to get out. We come across very few people and can always maintain a safe distance.

Glenthebattleostrich · 02/04/2020 23:12

Yes, we are semi rural so easy to get to country trails where most people aren't going. We aren't walking to the village though, I've never seen that route so busy. Not are we wandering around our housing estate because again, there are too many people. Luckily we are 1 street away from some woods with loads of trails through so you can go for hours without seeing anyone.

MillieMoodle · 02/04/2020 23:13

No, like a pp says, we have a garden so no need to go out. I am going out to do the food shopping and deliver food/medication to my parents who are self-isolating and that's it.

Missanneshirley · 02/04/2020 23:13

Yes, dog walk daily on very quiet beach. Think while we can, it's important that we do.

Piixxiiee · 02/04/2020 23:13

We go out every other. I dont feel right driving somewhere so just a bit of a walk/scoot around for a change of scenery , we have a big garden so I'm thinking we'll take them out less and less to be honest...

Hercwasonaroll · 02/04/2020 23:14

Yes. We need to for a break!

WanderingLost167 · 02/04/2020 23:14

Walk or bike ride daily

PicsInRed · 02/04/2020 23:16

Yes of course. It's in the rules and encouraged, once a day. Healthy persons have a much better chance of surviving coronavirus and good healthy exercise, fresh air and sunshine contributes to good health.

Random18 · 02/04/2020 23:17

Yes most days.

Either bike ride / walk or run about a big open space.

Ensure we follow social distancing. We do see others but never been a problem.

Our area is perfect for it even though we live in a small city.

We have a garden........

HasaDigaEebowai · 02/04/2020 23:17

The problem is that we just don’t know enough yet. Research from MIT states that the distancing should be 8-10 metres since that is the droplet transmission distance. Research from South Korea says that shoes are a common way of transmitting and that nobody should bring their shoes into the house. Lots of street disinfecting going on in places but not here.

Obviously understand taking the dc out if you have absolutely no outdoor space but if you have a garden or balcony then it’s a risk you don’t need to take imo.

amongthetrees · 02/04/2020 23:19

Yes. We live in a flat with no outside space. I take DD in her pushchair to a park every morning, then let her run and walk around. We're in central London, and it's much quieter than usual on the streets and in the parks. We still pass quite a few people - mostly delivery people, rubbish collectors, people doing food shopping or joggers/walkers. But it's easy not to pass too closely.

OntheWaves40 · 02/04/2020 23:19

No, I walk to the local shop twice a week with DD who stays outside the shop. We exercise with Joe Wicks each morning, we also do Zumba, Tarkwondo and cycling in front of TV/YouTube. The so called “fresh air” is likely to have corona in it so we don’t go out just for the sake of it.

Stet · 02/04/2020 23:19

No, but DD is only 14mo and quite content to play in our big garden. We have plenty of play equipment such as a slide and swing and sandpit so we haven't really felt the need to go for a walk from our front door, as she gets more exercise in the garden anyway.

zzzz31 · 02/04/2020 23:20

Thanks, everyone. It's tricky. Always feel better if we do. But wondering if just staying put is better. We're in a city , but roads and footpaths are almost deserted and we have an almost entirely green route to our park - uncrowded. We cross over the road or give a very wide berth if we meet people.

Mascotte · 02/04/2020 23:22

Yes, of course. It’s necessary for good health, mental and physical

bellsbuss · 02/04/2020 23:23

We go for a walk , bike ride or the younger ones take their scooters every day. We have a good sized garden but it's nice to get out and have a bit of normality , we don't usually see that many people when out.

DippyAvocado · 02/04/2020 23:23

Yes, to the woods at the end of our road. There are a few others there but plenty of space to stay more than 2m apart when passing.

zzzz31 · 02/04/2020 23:24

@HasaDigaEebowai - posted before I read yours. That scares me, the shoes. Have been going on to DH that his shoes potentially carry risk...

Hmm, not so sure now. We're in London too.

It’s just the crazy virus will grab you! Lot that are all over this site that are making yiu feel bad

Random18 · 02/04/2020 23:24

Hasa my children have not been out today. It's obvious they are going stir crazy.

Bedtime tonight and my youngest was running about crazy.

A balcony or our garden is not enough.

He needs to burn of his energy.

I accept there may be a minuscule chance we catch it going out. But it's not fair in them to no go out.

I won't drive anywhere.
