Chances on a ventilator

I know it's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question. A friend's Dad has sadly been on a ventilator for 9 days now with a confirmed case of Covid 19.
He's 63 and Type 1 diabetic I believe.
Of those who have recovered after being ventilated, how long did it take, if anyone has seen any info ?
I've read that the longer you are on a ventilator, the less chance you have of surviving sadly.
I'm worried about the outcome, I don't think it's looking good at all at this point..

The news said the chance of recovery after being ventilated was between 20-50%

He's perhaps slightly overweight, but by no means in the obese category.

It's terrifying really, isn't it. I really hope the odds will be in his favour. Less than a 1 in 2 chance of survival.

If he’s sick enough to need a ventilator, then his chances without it would be pretty much zero. 20-50% is a lot better than that.

You must be positive. Nobody has a right to take away anyone's hope.

I hope he pulls through too but the survival rates for those sick enough to need a ventilator are pretty grim to be honest.

I’m afraid survival rates for ventilator patients are around 40% for covid patients.

It is a small chance but a chance nonetheless, he still might survive.

His chances sadly are reduced by the length of time he's been on.And even if he survives he may have many difficulties after.

I will pray for him, let's hope he survives this.
