If you're still working, are you taking any annual leave?

Quite a few people have said to me that they're not bothering to take annual leave at the moment, because they can't do anything anyway.

I'm off all over Easter, dh also has a week booked off, a lot of Dhs colleagues have been cancelling their annual leave.

Just interested if the general consensus is that it's pointless using holiday right now.

I've been wfh with two dc so I'm quite looking forward to us both having a week off even if just to potter around and have some adult company.

Today we were told we can cancel holiday and let it roll over.
It's not like me and the dc's are going anywhere anyway. No holiday club to send them to either 🤷‍♀️.

Yes, just a couple of days next week. I'm wfh as a manager so am glued to Skype calls and my laptop. My brain is minced and the DCs need a bit of time with more of my attention.

I'm NHS and officially ours is cancelled but my booked week next week is being honoured simply because our area isn't busy yet, and we have staff to cover. I'm going to make the most of the rest while I can get it! Will spend some proper time with the DCs and sort the house a bit. I have to work 4 hours on the Friday as we don't have cover. But I've been taking the odd afternoon as annual leave as we have so few patients, this will change very soon! If one of my colleagues is off sick/isolating next week then I will be in as normal and postpone my annual leave.

I'm having 2 weeks over Easter. I haven't had any time off since before Christmas, as been leave for a trip which obviously isn't happening now.

I am currently WFH with one day per week actually in the hospital, as my role is part administrative, part clinical. I feel like I still need the break and to unplug from work stress, even if it's just Netflix and baking, and actually talking to the DC, rather than waving them away while I field a call.

No, mine was cancelled and I have actually ended up doing normal hours plus a half!
But the policy of no carrying forward has been relaxed for this year at least.

Yes I've got some booked over Easter. And I'm encouraging my team to book it in as well. We can carry it over but our job is quite full on (even more so now) and people need to have a proper break. A weekend is ok but a lot of us are trying to wfh and look after children and at the end of the day a lot of us won't get time 'off' with our kids like this again. I get you can't go anywhere but you can still be with them.

We have been told we have to take our annual leave before the 1st May. Not allowed to carry any over. Roll on 3day weeks until May for me at home alone.

I’ve finished work now until after Easter (Fri is my non working day). I’ve been working from home and partner is teaching in specialist school. I’m stressed to death trying to organise kids, queue for ages for a normal family shop to find shelves of essentials bare. I need a break and I feel guilty imagining other parents home schooling while I leave mine to just get on with stuff. Partner is on a rota too so he can have few days off too. We have a nice garden so hoping for some sunny weather and do some decorating as we bought paint and wallpaper before lockdown.

I work term time so I am taking it off. It will be nice not to have to juggle even if I can't go out!

I work at a firm where almost half of the employees have been furloughed. The others are all WFH.

Every employee both those furloughed and those that haven't have been told that we need to take at least 1 week of leave in April or May.

I understand why. We aren't as productive WFH as we are in the office. The last thing the firm want is for us when we are all back and running properly say in September, to then lose the entire workforce as they are all taking their annual leave!!

We've been asked to take it as they won't want everything saving it for the later half of the year. I've got a week booked in may which I'm hoping to cancel as I'm not going away now. If they're funny about that I'll use those days over more weeks to break it up. I expect people with kids will probably still take leave, especially if home school tasks are stopping for the holidays.

DH and I were both taking a week off each to cover the Easter holidays. DH has cancelled his but I’m keeping my week because I feel like I want a break from work anyway.

I have a week over Easter. I need the break tbh, even if it just means sitting in a different room in the house. Also means I can spend time with the kids.

Our work are encouraging people to take a few days for their mental health. And although our carry over to next year policy has been relaxed a bit, there will still only be so much time to take the holidays, so people will end up losing them.

We have been gently encouraged to take leave in the guise of it being good for our mental health but I am sure it's just so they don't have a glut of people wanting all their leave in half the year (or 3/4 of it if we are being optimistic)

No. In my circumstances it would feel like a waste as my work isn't particularly stressful. I'd far rather carry a lot over to next year.

I’ve cancelled mine in April because I had a couple of holidays booked (sound exciting but literally caravan weekend and Butlins). I want to take them when I can actually have a break, I go stir crazy at home as it is, at least work gives me some difference between week day / weekend.

I’m not because I’m working my notice atm but I wish I was! Everyone else in the company has been told they have to take a week between now and the end of May.

Yes, I’m wfh, fulltime + just now. All encouraged to take leave if possible to avoid burnout. It will be nice to chill out at home with the DC

I had two days booked together for school holidays... Split them up... Took one last week and one this so with BH for Easter I will have had 4 weeks of a 4 day weeks.
Makes it easier with kids...

Usually I buy an extra 5 days holiday so I'm not doing that this year. I'm carrying a few days over and we're usually expected to use those before the end of May. I've cancelled my leave for May because the event is cancelled and I'm assuming work will be more flexible over using those days.

Depending on how things go over the next few weeks, I might take a couple of days in May just for a bit of a break.

I not taking leave. In fact I had leave booked last week and this week but they let me cancel it. Cannot carry it all over so I do lose some, but I needed to be at work in a routine at this point in time so they were very good and did let me cancel.

I think employers now have to let you carry over up to 4 weeks of leave that can be used in the next 2 years.

They can still require you to take leave (giving 2 x as long notice as the period of leave) but should also be more flexible about people cancelling leave as unable to go away.

The 2 year carry over is to prevent everyone trying to take a year's worth of leave in a few months.

No - no time. Working at home (NHS back- room professionals) but well over normal hours and DH is doing ridiculous days. No sleep til peak Covid. It’s the least we can do.
