If you're still working, are you taking any annual leave?

Quite a few people have said to me that they're not bothering to take annual leave at the moment, because they can't do anything anyway.

I'm off all over Easter, dh also has a week booked off, a lot of Dhs colleagues have been cancelling their annual leave.

Just interested if the general consensus is that it's pointless using holiday right now.

I've been wfh with two dc so I'm quite looking forward to us both having a week off even if just to potter around and have some adult company.

Yes, we have to. Not allowed to amend or cancel leave already booked or carry over. The impact on our business would be too great if everyone saved up all their leave and took it say in the last 6 months of the year.

SeaOtterFluff · 02/04/2020 20:16

I'm taking an extra long weekend over Easter. I work in food supply chain and my brain is foggy tired after an incredibly stressful few weeks. I can't WFH so I'm looking forward to closing the door, turning off my work phone and having a full rest.

ceramichedgehog · 02/04/2020 20:21

We've been told to take annual leave.

I think the Government advice about carrying it over for next 2 years is only in relation to those who can't take it at moment ie critical key workers.

What companies don't want and I understand why is in return to 'normal' they don't want their workforce all taking leave.

I don't have an issue with the taking of leave during COVID. just thankful that I have a job.

HoffiCoffi13 · 02/04/2020 20:23

DH has just booked next week and the week after off. Obviously we’re not going anywhere but it will be far nicer for us both to spend some quality time with the three young DC instead of me frantically trying to homeschool the older ones, look after the toddler and keep everyone quiet so he can work properly from home.

Travelban · 02/04/2020 20:29

I had a week off as we were going away but now I have cancelled it. My rationale was that I will probably need a week at some point when I feel more tired /stressed out than I am now... I am thinking probably May sometime.

TheGreatWave · 02/04/2020 20:34

Our annual leave runs to our birthday month but we have all been told advised to take 2-3 days a month. Mainly because they want as many people in as possible when we get back to normal as it is going to be blinking chaos.

I have tomorrow off. Then the next two weeks have a bank holiday in anyway.

IceniSky · 02/04/2020 20:37

Taking 2 extra days over Easter, reduced from 5. Been WFH but am in utilities sector and the work load has massively increased and my working day blurred, dragging across my waking hours. Be good to just hang out with DC.

RunningNinja79 · 02/04/2020 20:40

I had an event in May which I originally booked a couple of days leave for. The event was understandably cancelled so I cancelled my leave. My next leave isn't until towards the end of June. I think I will need the break by then. I'm WFH currently. I really hope my company don't suggest we take a weeks break now as that will leave me with nothing between Sept and Christmas. I was panicking about only having the odd day available anyway during that time as my leave has been taken up by 2 weeks in August, long weekend in June then the odd day here and there for other things

DropZoneOne · 02/04/2020 20:43

I cancelled my Easter leave, we were meant to be going away. I might take a day or two in April but I'm finding the weekends hard so not sure adding a "do nothing" day will help.

StrugglingThrough2 · 02/04/2020 20:46

Our holiday year is Jan - Dec. 25 days.

We now have to take 15 days before end August.

Then 4 days over Christmas.

So we are allowed 6 days September - Christmas. Bit of a pain as I had planned to take dd’s first week at school off and also October half term. Small price to pay I suppose....

Figgygal · 02/04/2020 20:47

I’m using some leave to reduce my hours across the week so can feel like I’m neglecting the kids a bit less but not planning on large amounts of leave for now

Tfoot75 · 02/04/2020 20:48

I'm taking a week off over Easter. My firm have just said we have to use 40% of annual holiday before the end of June, as we're expecting a lot of our work to be pushed back over the next 3 months presumably.

CherryPavlova · 02/04/2020 20:53

I won’t be able Tom take any leave just now.

fluffdeloop · 02/04/2020 20:56

we've been told we HAVE to take 2 weeks between now and the end of june Angry

supercee · 02/04/2020 21:05

Yes, but I'll do anything to get out of a nightshift though so taking two days out of the four. Plus my colleague is irritating the hell out of me. Four night shifts won't end well at this rate, two days allowance well spent (probably doing nada!).

LisaSimpsonsbff · 02/04/2020 21:06

I had quite a lot booked in the last couple and next couple of weeks, because our leave year ends in April so I had some to use in March and then I'd booked off time around Easter. It's actually come in really handy as a way to lessen the work I need to do in the evening (we're both WFH and sharing care of a toddler) because it means I can spread four days over five by working on what would have been the holiday day. So I am taking it but sort of not, at the same time? I'm definitely using up my allocation, anyway!

Pelleas · 02/04/2020 21:06

I'll take what I've booked over Easter - it'll be impossible to fit it in otherwise.

zelbazinnamon · 02/04/2020 21:08

We were supposed to be away... but obviously that was cancelled, and then DH leave cancelled anyway (NHS).

BeetrootRocks · 02/04/2020 21:09

My industry people are being encouraged to take leave already booked.

I might take a couple days over Easter as even though I'm at home anyway I'm working so can't pay attention to the kids which feels a bit rubbish.

Yogawoogie · 02/04/2020 21:11

All cancelled Sad

pitterpatterrain · 02/04/2020 21:13

I took a week last week - massively needed it

Going to keep my week in May half term but prob won’t bother taking much / any over Easter now

Spacerader · 02/04/2020 21:13

I am term time, my easter break officially starts next week. Although I am rotad to go in for two of the days, which I dont mind. I've been working from home mostly.

Dp was due to take a week off over easter, he cancelled. He mostly goes in to the office as he needs to as there are only managers left, but he can wfh and will do for the time that was his annual leave. It seems pointless waiting annual leave now when you cant actually do anything

vodkaredbullgirl · 02/04/2020 21:13

Im on 2 weeks annual leave now, applied in January. Still waiting for a phone call to ask me to work, happens everytime im off.

AnneElliott · 02/04/2020 21:14

Was taking 2 weeks but probably only going to take 1 now over Easter.

MagentaRocks · 02/04/2020 21:15

I’ve cancelled some and kept some. The leave I cancelled I did so as it will probably be at a peak by then. The leave I have kept is to re charge so if lots of colleagues are off I will be rested and able to work more hours - that is as long as I don’t have any symptoms or my dh doesn’t have any symptoms.
