Universal Credit appointment tomorrow- questions!

Hey all
I have my telephone appointment tomorrow and have been asked to get several pieces of paperwork ready. That’s no problem I have them all here. But my question is how is the person on the other side of the phone going to be able to verify what I’m saying when she won’t see the paperwork?
I don’t have a scanner so I’m beginning to worry that they will ask me to email it over? If they do will a clear photo suffice?
Can anyone who has already had their appointment fill me in a bit?

I assume they will sort your online journal out and you will upload a phot to that?

Babyroobs · 02/04/2020 18:43

If you have passport, driving licence , bank card etc I'm sure they can verify by the document numbers.

Zofloramummy · 02/04/2020 18:44

Take a photo with your phone and upload it onto your journal. I do the same every month for childcare costs.

Chocolatedaim · 02/04/2020 18:49

There is no option to upload pictures on my journal yet, maybe it will change after telephone convo tomorrow.
Thank you

Have you seen the Journal part when you log in? That's where you exchange information and messages. You can take some photos ready to upload from your phone. Have your bank details handy in case they want to confirm those for the first payment. Answer calls from 'Unknown'.

They will tell you what they need to see if anything and if you do have to upload things then whoever you speak to will create a to-do in your account to upload the information - this won't be there for you to see unless UC specifically ask you to upload something.

I clicked on journal and saw the option to add entry (I’m sure that wasn’t there last time I looked 🤷🏻‍♀️) there are a few options to click, I will have a proper look once kids are in bed.
Is this where you just upload photos of ID?

Ok thanks ademanlu
I will wait until I have spoken to them then. Eager to try sort things out tomorrow so payments can be made as quickly as possible, money will be very tight in May if not!

Yes, when you click on the journal entry thing you can type a message and upload files (paper clip thingy) either as an upload from your photo library or by taking a photo on your phone.

Friend of mine had his first appointment today. He basically was asked to scan over proof of identity and address and had been told there is no claimant commitment for the foreseeable, no need to demonstrate looking for work etc, expect first payment later this month. I think now is about the best time to start a new claim for UC there could be. They’re swamped.

Chocolatedaim · 04/04/2020 07:58

Thanks for all your comments
They called me as scheduled yesterday and when I asked about providing the proof she said that once the ‘lockdown’ has been lifted UC may write to me asking for photocopies of certain documents, but they may not as they obviously have a lot to deal with right now.
It was very straight forward, all sorted, and first payments should be paid for 26th April. I was very anxious as I have never been in receipt of any benefits before (except for May Allowance) but it was seamless.
