More people venturing out today

I have been going for a walk at the same time daily since lockdown and usually see very few people or cars. Today was noticeably different there were a lot more people out and about walking and more cars on the roads. Has anyone else noticed this?
Perhaps people reached lockdown fatigue.

I’ve noticed this too on my journeys for work.

Unshriven · 02/04/2020 17:08

Yes definitely.

Just looking outside, there's way more traffic and loads of pedestrians.

Thickmuthafuckers · 02/04/2020 17:09

I have noticed this too

Pulppixies · 02/04/2020 17:09

Loads of people out walking today and in the past week. You wouldn’t think there was a lockdown tbh.

BackInTime · 02/04/2020 19:26

If it continues there will be a stricter lockdown

Much busier here.

ch3rrycola · 02/04/2020 19:30

Wait til Sunday when the sun is out

heidihigh · 02/04/2020 19:30

Yes, I've noticed this on my drive to and from work. Last week the roads were pretty much empty. Now, levels of traffic are noticeably creeping back up. Stay at home people!!

chickedeee · 02/04/2020 19:30

Really quiet here in KentGrin

Babyroobs · 02/04/2020 19:32

I passed a man today with his dog. He called out to me " don't let your dog come too close as my wife has the virus". I shouted to him what are you doing out if your wife has the virus , you should be isolating for 14 days and he said "no the doctor said it's ok to walk my dog". I put this on a local fb site more to warn people than anything as he could have been infected and touched metal gateposts/ dog poo bins etc. Most people were agreeing he should be in isolation but others kept saying he was fine to go for a walk ! Please tell me it is not fine to go for a walk as I shouted at him that he should go home.

tempnamechange98765 · 02/04/2020 19:33

Yes for sure, I was thinking the same thing weirdly.

cologne4711 · 02/04/2020 19:34

I went out for a run today and thought it was busier, but put it down to the time of day.

SimonJT · 02/04/2020 19:34

Even in 14 day isolation you are currently allowed out to exercise.

Still very quiet here in North London, we saw one person at the park yesterday and the only people we saw out today were our neighbours walking the dog.

PerfidiousAlbion · 02/04/2020 19:35

Yes, I worked from home yesterday and really noticed an uptick in traffic.

I front onto a B road and can see an A road from the back. Both were extremely busy all day with cars and vans, not just delivery lorries.

I’m the nosey type so i sat upstairs for a while to see exactly who was out and it mainly consisted of:

Young single make drivers in hot hatches speeding

older, well-off single male drivers speeding

middle-aged male van drivers carrying ladders/sand/general building stuff

I saw several marked and unmarked police cars too (silent blue flashing headlights) so I’m hoping they caught the speeding drivers.

I think men are just restless.

Connie222 · 02/04/2020 19:36

The weather is supposed to be lovely this weekend. People will be out in hoards again I think. To be honest, the amount of people waking and driving into town past my window, stopping to chat in groups etc hasn’t ever got quieter.

Ipadipod · 02/04/2020 19:37

I reckon the ‘novelty ‘ is wearing off for some people, I think more and more will be breaking the rules unfortunately.

LilacTree1 · 02/04/2020 19:38

Babyroobs, I thought he was allowed to walk his dog in the circumstances.

I saw more people on my daily walk but they looked pretty terrified. It’s crowded where I live. In previous days, people were smiling as they got out of each other’s way. Today I saw absolute terror on the faces of several men.

Coffeenofilter · 02/04/2020 19:38

Babyroobs, I think the official line is that the ill person stays in, but others in the household can go out if no symptoms... but I may have got that wrong. We have stayed in for 8 days so far, with no walks or outdoors time other than garden, because one of us has symptoms. In my mind, if any of us have it (though no way to be sure of course, thanks to no testing...) then we don't want to be responsible for having passed anything on, however slim the chance in the open air.

itsgettingweird · 02/04/2020 19:38

Supermarkets are getting stuff back in stock. The 3 weeks of food people stockpiled is running out. It's payday.

Therefore more people heading to supermarkets.

I haven't noticed more people out and about walking. But then again I've only been out to supermarket once in 2 weeks, walked twice and a few times I've gone into work (WFH other days).

I also think there may be a correlation between more travelling and the news articles about how the police have no right to question where people are going and not them them drive to places for their walk.

It actually worries me as the weather forecast for the weekend is really good.

But I'm not going to anywhere busy so at least I know I'll remain as safe as possible!

reasonswhyimdifferent · 02/04/2020 19:40

My partner said the same when he came in from work.

I wonder if the initial ‘WERE IN LOCKDOWN’ has worn off a bit.

LilacTree1 · 02/04/2020 19:40

“I also think there may be a correlation between more travelling and the news articles about how the police have no right to question where people are going and not them them drive to places for their walk.”

Is this correct? I thought they still had the right to ask on public transport and in cars, but not if you’re just walking along.

vroc81 · 02/04/2020 19:41

I wondered if it was a function of the clock changing as well as people seemed to be walking later in the afternoon here than they were a week ago but yes going to feed my horse it’s been noticeably busier on the road the last few days but still far far quieter than normal..

Abraid2 · 02/04/2020 19:41

You’re allowed to walk if you’re in SI and have no symptoms.

Lyricallie · 02/04/2020 19:42

See I thought the opposite it was much busier last week compared to yesterday. I think it's the weather. It's horrible up here in now sleet and snow all day.

middleager · 02/04/2020 19:44

Babyroobs, I think the official line is that the ill person stays in, but others in the household can go out if no symptoms... but I may have got that wrong.

It's 14 days.
We've just done 14 and were about to go for food, but now I have a fever, sore throat, headache last 2 days.

We keep speculating on a tougher lockdown, but it doesn't come, yet more lives are lost.

It's a farce.
