I have been going for a walk at the same time daily since lockdown and usually see very few people or cars. Today was noticeably different there were a lot more people out and about walking and more cars on the roads. Has anyone else noticed this?
Perhaps people reached lockdown fatigue.

I agree - I live opposite a co--op and it has been noticeably busier today with larger groups of people (or whole families or couples rather than just one person). The car park has been full most of the day too - and a lot more cars driving past (DD and I play stare out the window a lot as she's only 4 months and easily pleased). I did comment to DH that people were definitely out a lot more

SinglePringle · 02/04/2020 20:25

Pretty quiet in my london suburb. Folks seem to be accepting the guidelines.

Let’s hope it continues over the weekend and the fucking idiots don’t think it’s a holiday. I live alone and need my hour of exercise outside. If the thick twats fuck it up for us all, I genuinely worry about my mental heath.

Nanalisa60 · 02/04/2020 20:27

This weekend will be interesting!! The weather is supposed to be lovely across the whole of the U.K.

We will see how well behaved people are then!!

liquoriceallsortfamily · 02/04/2020 20:39

I think the main reason is most people have just got paid.

Jenala · 02/04/2020 20:47

I live on quite a busy road where traffic queues in the mornings sometimes. It's been lovely the last week, so much quieter (obviously I'd still choose to have the traffic and no pandemic Grin). This morning I noticed it was a lot busier, not as much as normal but a steady stream of traffic. We went for a walk round some local fields and saw quite a few groups, could have been families but I'm not sure as it was groups of similar ages - middle aged women all together, teenagers.

My 78 yr old father in law with heart disease suggested a walk at their local village green the other day though and he knows how I feel about him keeping home as much as poss so maybe people are losing interest. It's easy to lose sight of what's happening when you're just inside all day.

Oh gawd another FB vigilante Hmm

He’s allowed a walk, regardless of how you feel about it.

cheeseslovesme · 02/04/2020 21:29

Yes I noticed this when walking to work this morning, and had to dodge at least 5 lots of dog muck too. We live on a main road and there’s definitely more traffic today .

satansbumhole · 02/04/2020 21:32

I thought the same today.

hellsbells99 · 02/04/2020 21:42

A lot of people have been furloughed now, so a lot more time to go for walks in the day time.

limpbizkit · 02/04/2020 21:45

Definitely much busier where I am

Winesalot · 02/04/2020 21:49

I too thought this. The towpath I walk/run on was very busy this afternoon. And it was like social distancing went out the window. Crazy, crazy people. I kept my distance but watched many who just seemed to think it is a joke. And the dogs that were off leash and running up to people was bonkers. It was not this bad a couple of days ago.

Even worse - two borough park patrol people were walking side by side with about one metre between them in middle of 2.5 m path. Meaning no one passing them could be 2 m from them. And they did not pull up the people with dogs running up to others or fighting (dogs not owners).

Blimey!! Thought a new set of more relaxed rules came out. But no... seems I am the only one that cared here today.

Hercwasonaroll · 02/04/2020 21:51

Lots of people have a lot more time on their hands. Furlough is kicking in for most people I know. More people at home and not working = more people walking.

nonicknameseemsavailable · 02/04/2020 21:56

111 website says if 1 person has symptoms then they have to stay in completely for 7 days, the rest of the household for 14 days unless they too get symptoms which would mean 7 days is up before the 14 days if that makes sense. so no he shouldn't have been out walking the dog in my opinion.

MondeoFan · 02/04/2020 21:59

Yes I thought the same. I have a dog and have been taking him out all different times - sometimes in the morning, after lunch, late afternoon, early evening etc
Today I was out at 3:30 and so was every other person too it would seem that lives here

Aceventura20000 · 02/04/2020 22:02

Roads are getting busier for sure and it’s being noticed by the government.

Abraid2 · 02/04/2020 22:08

nonickname the rest of the household is allowed out for exercise. Away from other people. The guidance says:

If you are self-isolating, you must:

not leave your home for any reason, other than to exercise once a day – but stay at least 2 metres (3 steps) away from other people

TheHarryFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 02/04/2020 22:09

Sorry babyroobs, the man was in the right! You’re still allowed out for exercise if isolating because a member of your household is ill. I didn’t realise until a few days ago either.

RhubarbTea · 02/04/2020 22:10

I noticed this too in my area (big town in the South West)

Floobydoodoo · 02/04/2020 22:11

@Babyroobs you were completely unreasonable and in the wrong.

People self isolating are still allowed out for daily exercise. This is even the case if you have symptoms.

See NHS info attached.

Here it's mostly cars heading to the supermarkets. I can see Sainsbury's from my upstairs windows. I think previous posters are correct that people managed 2-3 weeks on a stockpile and now have the cash and time to go and do a big shop during the day (plenty were furloughed April 1st).

ErrolTheDragon · 02/04/2020 22:22

Quiet here - not much traffic, only a couple of bikes (it's a cycle route), no one else walking. The weather was so-so, mind you.

woodlands01 · 02/04/2020 22:22

I live rurally. Roads quiet, town quiet on the one occasion I've been to supermarket! However what I have noticed is teenagers walking and on bikes in pairs with friends out on countryside. Along the tow path, near canal boats which is now a no go. Very difficult when trying to do the right thing with your own teens. But I suppose the advice is gatherings of no more than 2 people so technically correct?

Andromeida59 · 02/04/2020 22:29

We live on a busyish road and there have been a greater number of cars today than there have been in the past 10 days.

ComtesseDeSpair · 02/04/2020 22:30

Most people are listening. I had to take the Overground line (London) today because my bicycle got a puncture 3 miles from home and I wasn’t going to push it the rest of the way home. I am not kidding when I say that there were maybe 3 or 4 people in each carriage - at 6pm on a weekday when it would usually be barely standing room only.

But, the longer this goes on, the more people will question how it’s meant to work. We can’t all hide indoors until a vaccine arrives in maybe 18 months time. Personally, I’d rather go out and catch the virus now whilst the healthcare system isn’t overloaded, and maybe others feel likewise.
