I’ve had my daughter prosthetic leg appointment cancelled until further notice. I understand that there are more urgent appointments but I’m still really still really upset that her leg is now hurting and she won’t be able to walk soon.

My vitamin B12 injection wont be going ahead. great, I need it. I am worrying about the longterm effects of this, it can be fatal if left untreated. Wonder how long it takes to die/effects to kick in?Confused

DS's ophthalmology appointment, DS has a community Paeds appointment via video phone and I'm really hoping we don't have his urology/nephrology appointment cancelled in June as he needs bloods/urine/BP checked.

My fertility treatment is hold until I am able to book a follicle tracking scan.

Was four days in to medication for a frozen embryo transfer to try and give DS a sibling when they called to say stop (privately funded)

DS allergy testing and hopefully epi pen prescription that we’ve waited 7 months for after he needed an ambulance after eating peanut butter.

DS orthopedics follow up After he was born with clicky hips and is now gross motor delayed

I've had tooth crown appointments cancelled - not urgent. Fortunately foresaw this and had a temporary filling out in the week before lockdown.

Recurrent mc clinic first appointment cancelled - irony being that I found out the week before this was due that I'm pregnant and now can't access epu who said they'd see me straight away if I got pregnant again.

Ds (17) has had his gastro appointment cancelled , which was fairly important as he'd just been weaned off steroids after his ulcerative colitis dx, which was made via emergency admission to hospital in jan. This would have been his first time seeing the gastro consultant team after his hospital admission and he now feels in the dark about what he should be doing/looking out for etc. He also needs treatment for acne caused by the steroids - not sure whether to try the GP for this...everything feels totally out of reach and behind locked doors atm!

This thread is so sad.

This can’t be right. Wouldn’t it be better to have say two big hospitals per region set aside for corona and the rest keep running, not as normal as they will be short staffed but say for the 20% most urgent cases? I’m sure there’s a reason that wouldn’t work though...

Botox.

My 6 year olds root canal treatment and his ADHD/Sensory processing assessment cancelled. We've waited 10 months for the appointment although many years to get to appointment stage so having him cooped up at home we are certainly feeling the strain.
Now to cross fingers the tooth doesn't start playing up until his treatment can be done.

I'm just glad it's nothing too seriously unlike some other people's appointments that have been cancelled.

My physio treatments on my arm have been cancelled indefinitely, and my investigation into Gallstones till all this is over. At my surgery they have still given me my 3 weekly b12 injections Bellini (albeit in the car park ), I would have thought that was quite important for your wellbeing.

I've just been prescribed another course of antibiotics to try to keep any infections at bay. I'm pretty much going to be on them until the situation changes..

I've had so many things cancelled, the first week I was getting 2 or 3 calls some days. I'm in long term physio, and haven't had any since early Feb. They were closed and now running a minimal service, but no one seems to know what's happening. Last week I called on Mon to see if my weds appt was still on - the secretary said yes. The day of the appt the physio himself called to cancel.

My gynae checkup was postponed from April to June with one day's notice.

Pain clinic is a nightmare - missed one appt because it was the day after the lockdown began and the Schengen borders were closed so I didn't know if I could go. I called the unit for 2 hours to try to find out but the secretary was stuck in a traffic jam trying to cross said border. They cancelled my next appt but have now reopened, though they don't know how long the government will let them stay open. In the end I had no treatment for 5 weeks (supposed to be every 2 to three weeks) so it was like starting from scratch when I went back.

Next week I have eye doctor and physio again, supposedly. Will be ringing tomorrow - I wonder what my chances are Hmm

The lack of both treatment and information is shocking. And heaven forbid the hospital might actually update its website with useful info about which services are running, instead of PR articles saying how wonderful they are because they've erected a covid tent in the car park (am being disingenuous- it's a temporary structure). Bitter, moi?

My counsellor has been doing phone appointments though, so at least I have someone to let off steam to about how little anyone cares about chronic patients,,,

Oldest son's braces were finally supposed to happen over Easter break, after a year of waiting and 2 cancelled appointments on their side.

So frustrating.

professorbean · 15/04/2020 06:28

This thread is terrifying and heartbreaking, the knock on effect of all these cancellations will be horrendous, not only people becoming very sick but also the fact that there will be a huge backup when normal service does eventually resume.

Wondering how GPs are coping with having to mannage things for longer. Mine was very frustrated at having things pushed back to them and felt at a minimum the hospital could have offered a telephone appointment and a holding plan for medications. They also said that in my case the referral had been refused because the GP had not examined but they said that their advise is not to examine if it won’t change the course of treatment and the hospital have more PPE minimising risks all round.
