When will online grocery shopping return to normal?!

I’ve always done food shopping online due to convenience due to health issues. I just can’t get any slots anywhere. I’ve been trying to get my 80 year old aunt one at the other end of the country too with no luck.

When do you think things will calm down again with online food shopping? I think I’d get more chance of winning the lottery at the moment!

Not any time soon tbh. It will be this way for As long As the lock down lasts

I think supermarkets, and by extension supermarket deliveries, will remain under immense pressure until the lockdown is relaxed and restaurants start to reopen. At the moment, all of the UK's normal restaurant food spend is being redirected to supermarkets. Every meal that a family would usually eat out, every school dinner, every workday lunch from Pret etc is instead being purchased from supermarkets.

I’d expect at least another 11 weeks as that’s how long the elderly and vulnerable will be isolating. Probably longer - as long as the virus is circulating and there’s no vaccination people will continue to be afraid to go to supermarkets.

I had the same issue with my parents who aren’t in the best of health and live about 5 hours away from me and not close to any other family! I discovered their local grocery shop was doing deliveries and arranged for my parents to call up with an order and have items delivered. A little pricier yes, but guaranteed quick delivery. Maybe, try your Aunt’s local Spar/co-op/corner shop?

I managed to get a tescos slot online tonight by logging in at 11.58 and then refreshing the page till slots become available

Yes, I am having difficulty getting deliveries for elderly relatives too. I think right now the system is reeling a bit and I do think it will improve, but not be back to normal for a very long time. I think soon they are going to have to start really strictly doing deliveries only for over 70s, high risk and/or shielding at some supermarkets. Iceland are already prioritising over 70s but don't have any slots at the moment.

Keep trying, and see what info you can get about any volunteer groups or local shop deliveries near to your aunt.
