Football! Tax payer furloughing back room staff so the Premier League players stay on £70,000 A WEEK

I mean, for fuck's sake!

Tottenham Hotspur, among others.

They're asking us to pay their non player staff (via the 80% thing) while their players will be paid their £70,000 a week.

Let's not forget this.

Football clubs generally treat non-playing staff like shit.

Blankscreen · 02/04/2020 08:53

I agree it utterly shameful for the players and the corporate structure.

I'm sure the cleaner or whoever probably can't actually afford a 20% pay cut but they are then paying their players £70k a week.

Shame on all of them

Pert lots of clubs are not massively profitable believe it or not. They're not all Manchester United

KenDodd · 02/04/2020 11:18

As Bilbo says, players will be on watertight contracts. They'd need to give up pay voluntary.

Well then public pressure needs to be applied on individual players to give up salary voluntarily and public recognition and respect towards those who do. Many players earn huge amounts with advertising certain brands, if a players reputation is damaged by collecting huge salaries while staff are sacked, their value to sports wear companies will shirk, equally, it will increase if seen to sacrifice money so club staff can be kept on.

I know someone will come along saying the best people give loads to charity and don't shout about it, only show offs do. Bollocks to that, there's no time, people need to be shamed and if that means virtue signalling be others, so be it.

An example of Spurs salaries

That's no excuse for the ones that are though. Spurs pay their players performance related bonuses in addition to their wage, as do many other clubs.

Theres no way they cant afford to pay their backroom staff.

TildaKauskumholm · 02/04/2020 15:22

I didn't think my opinion of these grossly overpaid idiot could get much lower, but it just has. Sadly their fans will neither remember nor care, while we are all subsidising these tossers for God knows how many years.

Number12 · 02/04/2020 15:44

Oh dear. I'd be ashamed if that were my dh or ds. That being said they will pay a huge tax bill (well they should be!)
