Myself and dp we’re discussing this last week and wondering what on earth will happen to these poor people stuck in refugee camps, had a search earlier and now confirmed cases have been found.

Certainly puts things into perspective here whilst we’re condemning Doris down the road for not using the oap times at Sainsbury’s and snitching on neighbours who god forbid might leave there house more than once a day.

One toilet between per 167 people, one shower between every 200. Jesus wept it will spread like wildfire.

Awful, just awful.

Sad but not unexpected. Any of these refugee camps around the world are already melting pots for diseases, and CV is going to become rampant through them.

Agree it's just awful anyway without this, but this will only make it so much worse.

This is the thing I’ve been most concerned about from the outset of the crisis.
They don’t stand a chance Sad

I've been following the numbers on CV around the world and feeling very thankful number seem low in the developing world and slow to rise. I hoped there might be some reason, I don't know, the heat maybe, just something, that kept the numbers low, I suspect more likely it's just that it hasn't taken off yet. I read a tweet for an Indian doctor about a lockdown being a privilege. Firstly you need a house to isolate in, those people in refugee camps have nothing.

buttermilkwaffles · 01/04/2020 23:30

That's not what the article says though, it says one case on the mainland in a camp just outside Athens? There have been a few cases on Lesvos, but thankfully none in Moria so far...

LooQoo · 01/04/2020 23:37

Yes, not just refugee camps but also slums and townships in the developing world. Once it starts it will spread like wildfire.

@KenDodd
Is the heat / sun theory true? It’s spreading in Australia and they are just coming to the end of a southern summer.

MasakaBuzz · 01/04/2020 23:41

I can’t speak about the refugee camps, but I have read that the developing world might not suffer as much as expected. Life expectancy in the developing world is much shorter. Whilst it does attack some young people. The majority of deaths are the elderly with
Pre existing conditions. The reality is elderly people are unlikely to survive to be killed by Corona Virus in places like sub Saharan Africa.

Is the heat / sun theory true?

No, it's not a theory at all. It's just me clutching at straws and hoping there's something, anything, that might help reduce spread.

@kendodd

I’ve heard it said a few times but couldn’t understand why it was still spreading in ANZ. I will have a look and see what I can find though,

That’s a really good point too @MasakaBuzz.

@MasakaBuzz
Good point about the elderly in the developing world. Also, thier countries tend to be very bottom heavy with disproportionately large numbers of young people, very young average age.
