Why don’t we hear about how many people have survived Coronavirus? Surely there are for more survivors than deaths, why isn’t this reported in the news?

Embracelife · 01/04/2020 22:44

There are 141000 beds for 56 million population .
So if everyone gets covid and 5% need hospital care the numbers just dont add up..because befs are already in use by usual illnesses anyway

Gin96 · 01/04/2020 22:45

Because it would be nice to hear good news stories instead all the negative all the time, the good news is over 90% will recover from this virus

Embracelife · 01/04/2020 22:45

Embracelife · 01/04/2020 22:46

The Guardian are publishing stories of people who have been very ill but recovered/recovering www.theguardian.com/society/2020/apr/01/covid-19-recoveries-it-was-the-most-terrifying-experience-of-my-life

Gin96 · 01/04/2020 22:49

It would be nice to have a thread of good news on here for a change 😊

I completely agree. We need more good stories -- in China they were pushing them out. I enjoyed this (about three people over 100) who have recovered, especially the fact that the Italian patient had also survived the Spanish flu. Mustn't underestimate fact that some people live to be extremely old because they have much much better than average immune systems. www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/carlieporterfield/2020/03/27/the-miraculous-mr-p-101-year-old-italian-man-beats-coronavirus/amp/

Embracelife · 01/04/2020 22:51

So if my maths is correct . If you suddenly need hospital beds for just 1% that's 4 or 5 x the available beds.

Correct me if my maths is wrong!!

Superlooper · 01/04/2020 22:52

If you are on twitter, follow @coronasgoodnews

E. g. Good news
101-year-old #Dutch woman, who was born during the #Spanish flu, has recovered from #coronavirus illness. #COVID19

An elderly couple in Kerala, aged 93 and 88 who had tested positive for Covid-19 and remained critical for days, have recovered completely.

A 95 year old Swiss woman was back home and online with her 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchidren on Friday after recovering from a week in intensive care with #COVID19

Gin96 · 01/04/2020 22:52

The more people who get the virus mildly and recover, does that mean the quicker lockdown is removed?

OP posts:
Gin96 · 01/04/2020 22:54

@Superlooper @Bellebelle thanks for these stories, it brings hope to all the doom and gloom 😊

Embracelife · 01/04/2020 22:54

The "oh well most survive "goes back to herd immunity argument..let the 5% die because the rest will survive just fine. Yes it s good news for those majority who manage fine. It s still awfully bad news for the dead.

Branster · 01/04/2020 23:04

The 5% will die full stop until a vaccine is discovered. (I copied 5%, I haven’t actually looked it up, I thought 1% was the percentage) On top of this there’s normal mortality. The two probably overlap.
But surely most people wouldn’t be comfortable with this figure of people vanishing before their time. Even the most pragmatic must appreciate that a good proportion of these 5% individuals would still have decades of productive lives ahead of them.

Branster · 01/04/2020 23:06

Boris seems to be riding it out OK?
There are mixed reports from those who recovered but the more dramatic ones will be in the news. The consensus is still that mild form of flu or cold like symptoms are what lots of people experience.

Gin96 · 01/04/2020 23:07

Let’s fill this thread with good news stories, let’s focus on the positive and not the negative 😊 people need hope not all doom and gloom.

OP posts:
Gin96 · 01/04/2020 23:09

5% is critical but doesn’t mean they won’t survive. There most be more good news stories?

OP posts:
Embracelife · 01/04/2020 23:14

The majority will be fine yes
That's good news yes

But not a reason to go out hugging people or similar
.
Stay cheerful _ but keep away from people

Gin96 · 02/04/2020 07:20

Who said anything about not following the rules 🤷‍♀️ Does anyone know any personally good news stories?

OP posts:
Branster · 02/04/2020 07:45

No personally good (or bad) news stories here. From the UK or any other countries.
But no news is good news, right?

Bringringbring12 · 02/04/2020 07:47

My ex husband had it.

Bad flu but now absolutely fine

Bringringbring12 · 02/04/2020 07:48

And my best friend’s husband (paid privately for test).
Mild flu

Gin96 · 02/04/2020 07:57

I didn’t know you could pay for the test privately?

Ok so say your theory is correct, why would the powers that be want to lockdown 1.6 billion people? What would they gain from that?

OP posts:
SallyWD · 02/04/2020 08:17

I read about 80 to 86% are mild. 14% need hospital treatment. A few % die
