How often are you going out shopping?

Ideally I'd like to go out once every two weeks... but you can't stock up on fresh fruits and salads for two weeks! Kinda hard to eat healthily...

Absolutely as little as possible. Im trying to secure shop drops or click and collects. If i HAVE to go to a supermarket i select strategic times. I always pack a wet soapy flannel in a tupperware box and put it in boot with a towel. Before i enter store i wash and dry my hands with flannel and when i exit i repeat before getting back in car. I avoid touching s much as poss and avoid others as much as poss. I have a list, i dont browse, im in and out rapido. Supermarkets are crucibles of infection.

NeverYouMind123 · 01/04/2020 22:15

I'm thinking an early morning supermarket trip once a fortnight then a quick visit to a greengrocers once per week

Once or twice a week. Getting through more food as DD home from uni and all eating 3 meals a day at home.

cosmicbabe · 01/04/2020 22:17

You can get fresh food delivered to your door from loads of retailers. I use Hello fresh. It's brilliant. No need to go out

esjee · 01/04/2020 22:17

Twice a week.

Greenpop21 · 01/04/2020 22:18

Can’t get any delivery slots!

delilahbucket · 01/04/2020 22:21

Last week and this week I've got a delivery slot. Last week I still had to go visit a supermarket on top of my delivery due to things being unavailable, we'll see what turns up this week. I also visit our butcher once per week, currently I just text him my order, transfer him the money and then just collect the bag.

WanderingTrolley1 · 01/04/2020 22:22

Once or twice a week.

Pishposhpashy · 01/04/2020 22:22

Couple of times a week. Only have a small under counter fridge and no freezer so cant really get away with less than that.

LightACandleHoney · 01/04/2020 22:23

Aiming for once a week here but had to nip out yesterday for bread, milk and some more fruit. Was in and out of Lidl in under 10min. Wished I hadn’t gone at all. I do worry about us not eating enough fresh fruit and veg though esp when we’re not getting anywhere near as much exercise and fresh air as normal. We’re a family of 6 though in a small house with small fridge/freezer. If we had less people, or more fridge space I reckon we could do once a week fine

TheThingWithFeathers · 01/04/2020 22:23

Twice a week. I live right next to the supermarket so I go just before it closes and it's quiet. It's taken a real shift in mindset not to just pop in whenever I need to or if there is something I fancy. Kind of hoping I can keep that up and still keep my shopping trips to a minimum once this is all over.

ShanghaiDiva · 01/04/2020 22:23

Shopping for us (4) and top up for elderly neighbours (they got a slot from Iceland) once per week.
We are at my mum’s and she has a small fridge so we play fridge Tetris- dd is a whizz a packing it all in.

Not where I live in London you cant, they're all.booked up for weeks and many aren't accepting new customers.

Qasd · 01/04/2020 22:24

Every three or four days, we don’t have a car and usual use online delivery but we are healthy and low risk and online delivery is for the vulnerable at the moment.

It’s odd loads of people seem to think changing are shopping habits to go mor frequently but ourselves is damaging but it feels sensible not to take an online order from someone who actually needs it!

Megan2018 · 01/04/2020 22:26

0 at the moment as we are managing online. We do run out of fresh food but frozen veg is fine.
Longer life fruit like apples and bananas (can cook with them when go brown).
It’s not popular on Mumsnet but fruit isn’t essential. Veg more important.

Qasd · 01/04/2020 22:26

And hello fresh do not take new orders few online retailers do they have been overwhelmed unsurprisingly

VanGoghsDog · 01/04/2020 22:26

I went to the village Co-op quickly Monday last week, not been out since except for two walks.

Luckily got a Sainsbury's delivery last Friday and have Tesco this Saturday.

But I do have enough food for a month or so. I'm lucky, it's just me, so I don't need frequent shops. I can't imagine how it must be for big families.

DramaAlpaca · 01/04/2020 22:27

Once or at most twice a week. I'm in and out as quickly as I can, wear disposable gloves and disinfect the trolley before I use it.

Megan2018 · 01/04/2020 22:27

Forgot to say we are 1 week in to 2 weeks isolation and live rurally so a long way from shops.

InDubiousBattle · 01/04/2020 22:28

Every 3 days or so. We are a family of 4 and live around 2 miles away from our nearest town (very down hill to town, very uphill back!)but we don't drive so have to carry our shopping home. Everyone in our local town is being really respectful of social distancing, more so than I thought tbh. Aldi have cleaning stations outside to wipe down trolleys and baskets, we use hand gel before and after shopping and wash our hands when we get home. It's probably more often than most but it's either go more often and walk or get a bus or taxi with a big shop.

fitflopqueen · 01/04/2020 22:29

Trying to limit to once weekly for us - 3 + dog & cat, also shop for my mum - again trying to keep her to once - thats harder though has she has to write a list so she may get a top up mid week for forgotten things plus their prescriptions as needed.

dementedpixie · 01/04/2020 22:34

Every few days. I used to go practically every day before lockdown so it's a big change. We make a list as things run out and then go when it's long enough or theres something on it we need that day

greenlynx · 01/04/2020 22:36

I wasn’t since schools closed, I’m staying at home with DD. DH was 6 days ago and hopefully we will survive a couple of days more without shopping, we have some UNT milk.
I don’t know what people are talking about there is no delivery options neither click and collect available around me.

VanGoghsDog · 01/04/2020 22:41

I don’t know what people are talking about there is no delivery options neither click and collect available around me.

It's different in different areas. Also, Sainsbury's are opening slots first for the elderly and vulnerable, next for those with a delivery pass. There were delivery pass (which I have) slots this week, but I have a Tesco slot I booked three weeks ago.

My dad is terminally ill and my mum at 79 is struggling (and has COPD and high blood pressure herself), so I am trying to be as isolated as I can be in case I have to go and stay with them to help them. Which also means I can't drink in case I need to go over in the night or something.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/04/2020 22:54

Last week twice - once to Tesco Express, and once to the corner shop. This week I went to M&S yesterday - it’s our closest supermarket and was both well stocked and empty. We usually get an online delivery fortnightly, plus pick up bits and bobs on the way home from work etc, neither of which is possible now, and we don’t run a car. I think we are getting through so much more bread/milk/cheese/eggs and so on with having lunch at home every day rather than just breakfast and dinner.
