How often are you going out shopping?

Ideally I'd like to go out once every two weeks... but you can't stock up on fresh fruits and salads for two weeks! Kinda hard to eat healthily...

Every 7-10 days which is considerably better than I was doing as pre-corona I shopped every day:every other day.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 02/04/2020 08:20

The supermarket I use is very well managed and the vast majority of customers have been observing the 2m rule when I’ve been in.

SallyWD · 02/04/2020 08:22

Once a week to supermarket but usually have to pop in to garage once for bread.

crazydiamond222 · 02/04/2020 08:24

We having been buying online from speciality retailers. We had a spanish week last week and are having a greek week this week. We also get a fruit and veg box delivered. We have not been out shopping since 14th march.

CherryPavlova · 02/04/2020 08:25

I’ve not used any shop for three weeks now. I don’t intend to shop except online.

Itoldyouiwasill · 02/04/2020 08:26

I'm aiming for every two weeks. I've got fruit in tins and veg in the freezer. I doubt anyone is going to die from scurvy in the UK without fresh fruit and vegetables. This is an out of ordinary situation and, as such, will require us to behave in a way that is not usual. ( I'm usually a pop in to the supermarket each time I pass type of shopper)
I think one problem that I see over and over again is people trying to maintain normality.
It's NOT normal and the quicker we adjust the better our mental health will be.
One positive thing for me is that I now realise how much crap I used to buy in supermarkets just because I was there and fancied it. I doubt I'll ever go back to the way I used to shop again

Greenpop21 · 02/04/2020 08:27

@CherryPavlova do you live alone?

CoronaIsShit · 02/04/2020 08:27

Twice a week which is amazing as I was in my local Tesco at least once a day sometimes twice as it’s a 3 minute walk away, and on school run, before this started.

There are 6 of us (5 of us adults, 1 preteen) so we need a lot, especially as older 3 DC will not stop eating at the moment!

I braved our massive town centre Asda yesterday afternoon to see if I could find eggs, completely stressed out about what it would be like as it had a bad rep before but it was wonderful! No queue, everything in stock, loads of space as hardly anybody in there. So much less stressful than my local. I was shocked actually.

EllaAlright · 02/04/2020 08:27

I go once every 10 days for fridge/lunch items. I get a gousto delivery service for 4 nights worth of meals a week, and am running down my freezer for the other 3 nights. With the kids being home I need to make sure I’ve got stuff for lunches in.

Bringringbring12 · 02/04/2020 08:28

Every other day.

Yesterdayforgotten · 02/04/2020 08:28

crazydiamond222 nice if you have plenty of money...not everyone would afford speciality retailers though

JonHammIsMyJamm · 02/04/2020 08:28

Your post about storage is really useful, @ChanklyBore. Thanks.

Bringringbring12 · 02/04/2020 08:29

Hardly any queues and shelves fully stocked

It’s a very pleasant experience! That’s at marks

Showmeyourhero · 02/04/2020 08:30

DH goes out for us once a week at the Moment, always late evening when the supermarket is empty and shelves are full!

Bringringbring12 · 02/04/2020 08:31

* I doubt anyone is going to die from scurvy in the UK without fresh fruit and vegetables. This is an out of ordinary situation and, as such, will require us to behave in a way that is not usual. *

Until such time as the supermarkets aren’t stocking fresh fruit and veg - then I will turn to my cans.

Until then, my children and I are continuing to enjoy all the fresh fruit we usually enjoy. Why? Because all the supermarkets are rammed with it

Ragwort · 02/04/2020 08:31

A couple of times a week, I also shop for isolated older people and have to collect donations for the Food Bank. I choose a shop that is not at all busy and everyone respects the rules.

Greenpop21 · 02/04/2020 08:32

I could get by on very little but with DD home from a catered uni early and another DD with no school, it’s hard to keep stocked. I’m making soups and bread for lunches but it’s the fresh salad ingredients and fruit as we eat healthily most of the time anyway. I’m trying a small Aldi for a big shop one a week and I have a local, very quiet co-op for milk etc in the week but normally manage a week.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 02/04/2020 08:32

Once a week here. I’m used to doing meal plans and keeping a shopping list going but this is hard. Admittedly not as difficult a situation as a lot of people are finding themselves in.

Our Corner Shop however has a constant stream of people going in. It’s too small for any type of social distancing and some people are going in 2 or 3 times a day. DH has started calling it Corona Corner.

Yesterdayforgotten · 02/04/2020 08:37

I'm finding it easier to go once a week-10 days as before this we used to get a weekly shop but not really think about it and ened up nipping back for things we had forgotten or items we fancied on a whim. Now we really think about it and make sure we have enough and double check list before one of us does the supermarket made dash and I am finding we have been eating well and I feel very lucky.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/04/2020 08:37

Home deliveries are a joke for many people. Never mind veg boxes etc. ‘Not accepting new customers’ we’ve had doorstep milk delivery for many years and I often used to order extras, apart from milk and my weekly half dozen FR eggs.

Hardly anything I order extra is arriving now, not even my regular eggs, and I’ve been a loyal customer for ages.
They have been inundated with new customers.
At least the milk’s still arriving though. 🙂

Yesterdayforgotten · 02/04/2020 08:37

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 02/04/2020 08:42

Twice a week - once for my household and once for a vulnerable person (where I may get odds and ends for us too).

CherryPavlova · 02/04/2020 08:45

Greenpop21 No, three of us here at the moment and four elderly neighbours I cook for a couple of times a week.

starsparkle08 · 02/04/2020 08:45

3 days a week or so

Frangipanini · 02/04/2020 08:46

Been shopping once since lockdown. Trying to keep it now to one very big shop per week and perhaps one pop out if badly needed.
