Not sure if I have enough to self isolate - have taken my temp 5 times over the last 5 hours and it has come out as 39.0, 36.1, 36.9, 38.0 and 37.9. Clearly the thermometer is anything but accurate.
No cough but do feel a bit weird (which I think is work stress as my bp is up)
I should self isolate shouldn't I to be safe?

Yep.

Is it an ear thermometer? they are notoriuosly inaccurate if not used right. they need to be in the ear canal so the ear drum can be scanned. if they are angled slightly towards the wall of the outer ear canal they can read low.

Depending upon what method you use to calculate an average, you have a raised temperature throughout the day or fractionally under. And you've definitely had a fever during that time (the least accurate thermometers usually have an error margin of +/- 1 Celsius).

Stay at home.

try pulling your ear up and back then retaking a few times. make sure tip is in the ear canal. but dont force it in

It's a forehead thermometer.

And feeling my back or chest as it says on nhs111 is no good because my hands are cold (working from home and it's cold today)
