Can I go for a drive?

After two weeks in the house I'm going a bit stir crazy! My almost two year old DD has special needs and cannot walk and doesn't always enjoy some fresh air stuck in the pushchair but she does love the car and looking out the window!

Can I go for a drive to get us out of the house for a little bit? I'm in my own car which is obviously only used by us and won't be in contact or be physically near anybody else?

No and the popo are getting quite hot and stopping lots of people driving asking where they are going.

But it's slightly ridiculous. You can go for a drive to the supermarket still.

You can drive if it's an essential journey. Like getting food or medicine or going to work if you can't work from home. Otherwise no.

If you don't mind risking a fine you can. The reasons not to are fairly obvious, but it's entirely up to you.

The popo near me are doing this, harrassing normal people.

Yet completely ignoring the local dogging spot which is as busy as ever!

I'm not sure anyone who calls the police the popo is old enough to drive Grin

This may sound a bit mad (i've clearly been cooped up for too long) but if she loves the car, could you just... sit in the car? And not go anywhere? If she's only 2, she might still quite like it?

The legislation doesnt mention cars at all.
So in fact there is nothing illegal about going for a drive.

Some police forces are interpreting it differently to others.

I would go.. You are not in contact with anyone in your car

There will be lots of posters saying what if you break duwn have an accident.. Yeah what if you fall down the stairs at home

Just go.. If you are stopped the worst will be advice to go home

Stay. At. Home. If you fall down the stairs you fall down the stairs but at least you were doing the right thing. Don't put you and your DD at risk.

@Pootles34 I wish she was that easy 😩 As soon as I pull up anywhere or pull over etc she has a little breakdown because the car isn't moving 🙈

I wish I could drive around a bit too, with a CD on, nice and loud and my awful catawauling,very therapeutic, but I know cannot.Sad

There are reasons not to go for drives unless you need to:
Fewer cars on the road, less chances of car accidents.
Less traffic makes it easier for ambulances and fire engines to get places, and faster. With more demand and fewer resources you are saving lives by avoiding unnecessary trips.
Fewer cars using petrol, less activity in petrol stations, etc

I would personally go, the overreach of the police at the moment is quite shocking.

And genuinely curious, do you not use popo as a (somewhat disrespectful) term for police? I'm not British and it's quite a common term to use back home, I just assumed it was used as widely here. I swear I've heard it used here...

No, it's hard. But people carrying on doing their own thing and making excuses are making it worse.

It's busier out there today for some reason. Boredom and they've thought of a reason it mustn't apply to them I expect Confused

I've heard popo but then I spend a long time working with addicts and young people in custody. It's not a phrase that people would take you seriously with. In fact the level of eye roll would be impressive. Be fair it is a bit ridiculous

Then again you did just put in capital letters about a police state so you know.....

Sorry OP I do think journeys like that may result in being pulled over , its somewhat dependent on the police officers view on the matter as to whether they will let you continue.

I'm sorry that's a tough position to be in.
