Furlough question

So the company I work for have decided to furlough some of us today. My question is, would they be allowed to rotate who is on the scheme?
For example a department has three people on full time wage. At the minute there is only enough work for one person. Could they (the company) alternate who comes in, so we all get a week of working and then two weeks off.

Minimum 3 weeks furlough

So in theory yes but it's an operational headache. It would also make it difficult to cover sickness; if they only have one working then once they are passed the three weeks the others can be pulled off furlough to cover. If you're trying to rotate you could end up having to take people off furlough after less than three weeks which then means you have to pay them for the whole time.
It is a flaw in the system as it makes it difficult for businesses with a little bit of work

Sorry, in theory yes it could rotate but not weekly.

Agree after three weeks they could, we are looking at doing this. Biggest issue is no one really knows who can and can't be furloughed as currently no guidance.

Ah ok. Thanks for the replies.
I appreciate its a difficult set of circumstances.

Did you see the slightly more detailed guidance which came out on Friday EssentialGarage? It answered some of the questions about who is covered
