How do you honestly THINK this will end?

Just that really....

I’m a very anxious person. I can’t see a light at the end of this very dark tunnel.

My version of the end is that the virus continues to spread. It mutates to be even more dangerous, with a 100% mortality.
It can’t be contained.
Civilisation will be destroyed.

Those that manage to avoid it will have to find ways to survive until eventually they catch it too......

Please don’t lay into me for my “end”
Right now this is honestly how I’m thinking and it’s a really scary place to be in.

Seriously how does everyone else think this will end?

OP posts:
Shitsgettingcrazy · 31/03/2020 07:06

Op, I have anxiety. I get that it runs away with you. This thread hasnt bothered me.

But did you stop to think about the people with similar anxiety levels, to you, before you posted this?

Did you stop to think how this could set people off, who were just about coping before, who are reading this?

BillywilliamV · 31/03/2020 07:07

Those of you that blithely talk about halving humanity and saving the planet! There's no such thing as a theoretical death, everybody is important to somebody and every death is a tragedy!
There are too many humans, but wiping out a huge number of "others" is not something to be tossed around a conversation as though it was on the same level as putting down ant powder because the ants invade your kitchen every summer!

ninja · 31/03/2020 07:10

@Helpmechangemymindsetplease

There's hope - I'm coming up for 50 and felt like you. I met someone a week before all of this kicked off - two weeks ago when we weren't touching bit before social distancing. It was in a group so there was just a connection but nothing said.

We've been messaging ever since and just had a first date online ... timing is shit but hey

There are plenty of people here who have met people while older, don't give up hope

Bluewater1 · 31/03/2020 07:12

When your anxiety is giving you racing thoughts ask yourself, "what is the evidence?" Write down your thoughts, then write down the evidence, compare
Catastrophic thinking is something that can happen from time to time. Notice it when it happens, name it and challenge it.
Have you seen the FACE COVID YouTube video? It's very helpful and gives good advice about managing our thoughts and feelings during this time Flowers

Blackbear19 · 31/03/2020 07:16

OP I don't have any science why but I believe that it will pass other than historically all pandemics do.

We've become complacent in that modern meds have shielded us from the illnesses and horrors of the past.

I believe it will change the way people act and think, for the better. The world will be a cleaner, nicer, kinder nicer place to be.

PieceOfMaria · 31/03/2020 07:17

Billy we are philosophising, that’s all. It’s hypothetical. It’s not going to happen. We can toss thoughts and ideas around in conversation however we like, because they are just that. Thoughts and ideas.

The day we can’t do that is the day we are all truly fucked.

madcatladyforever · 31/03/2020 07:17

No plague in history has destroyed civilisation so I think you're ok now.
We have modern medicine and so on, it will burn itself out after several months, people will gaimn immunity.
The economy will recover eventually like it did after the 2nd world war.

Redwinestillfine · 31/03/2020 07:18

It will end with a vaccine. We just need to sit it out until then.

WoollySheep462 · 31/03/2020 07:23

@Helpmechangemymindsetplease Nonsense- get onto online video dating dating right now Grin

MiniMaxi · 31/03/2020 07:31

OP, it isn’t in the virus’ best interest to have 100% mortality as it would run out of hosts and itself would die out.

I anticipate three months of lockdown, let out in the summer, cases start to rise in late September, lockdown again October to March for anyone who hasn’t had it already. Then vaccine (hopefully).

TwentyViginti · 31/03/2020 07:32

We are all going to die.......sometime, because we are mortal! the plagues of the past didn't wipe us all out - we are living proof of that. Viruses don't actually want to kill us all - they need us as hosts. In the near future there will be a vaccine against it, and C-19 will simply be another 'flu' we have a pre emptive jab for.

Etinox · 31/03/2020 07:38

The infection and death rates will drop quite quickly from mid April. Shops and services opening late May. Schools would reopen but by then it’ll be May half term, so there’ll be a little spat, with private schools opening before the summer holidays and state opening for childcare. Larger gatherings will always feel strange and we’ll continue to wash our hands and be scratchy about personal space. Everyone will be a little bit preppy. Long haul travel will take many years to become commonplace again, due to many airlines and hotels going bust and insurance becoming prohibitive. Next budget will be eyewatering- increase in VAT NI and income tax because corporation taxes will be impractical because most businesses will be in such a precarious state. House prices will fall by 30% with many oversees absentee landlords selling up to avoid taxes. The National Health Service will remain sacrosanct with huge public resistance to PFI/ outsourcing/ co-pay and at the point of use initiatives.
Most of us won’t know anyone who dies and our children and grandchildren will tell their children about it all.
Excuse the blotchy screenshot- I posted it last week with my name and friends who liked its names’ too Blush

anotherlittlechicken · 31/03/2020 07:40

@tollyfeeder

I think it is starting to weaken already.

We'll be OK. It will end soon. Flowers

SallyWD · 31/03/2020 07:40

I've heard viruses usually become weaker if they mutate so stop worrying about that. It's a very serious situation but the mortality rate is still low. Stay calm.

cornishdreams1 · 31/03/2020 07:40

Op I am sorry you are feeling so anxious, a chat with your GP wouldn't be a terrible idea, you may need extra support?

My end:

Well I have done some research on this, and the ending is likely to be that the antibody tests are rolled out, and those that have had CV or have antibodies will be issued a certificate and will go back to work and life (things will gradually reopen as the numbers increase)

Those that are in the vulnerable/older age group will continue to be shielded as the rest of the country gradually restarts the economy.
In our hospitals the trialled drugs will start to some success stories and will be used up and down the country.
The lockdowns may stop and start as flash points arise, more people will be taken care of at home instead of hospitals, this will help the workload as medics distribute the workload. By the end of the year/beg of next year the vaccine will be ready, and after the NHS workers the first to be vaccinated will be the shielded groups who can then safely rejoin those that are already living a normal life. We will then all be vaccinated and life will be back to normal. Coronavirus will no longer cause fear in people.
Life will continue until the next pandemic, but by then we will have learnt lessons from this one, and will swiftly respond like HK and South Korea and that will be that!

We will beat this op, of that I am 100% certain.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 31/03/2020 07:46

There are some reasons to be cheerful OP. They were predicting death rates to double every 4 days (as in Spain and Italy) But this does not seem to be happening, the past 3 days the U.K. rates have been 260, 209, 180. Indications seems to suggest social distancing is already having an effect. We can win this....

Frangipanini · 31/03/2020 07:52

The virus will lose its potency and fizzle out but then there will be world disorder with untold anger directed at the alleged place it started.

Shinyfloors · 31/03/2020 07:57

Etinox I enjoyed reading your post but pls be aware that the names blacked out can be read on the screenshot.

MsJuniper · 31/03/2020 07:57

@etinox I can still read the names on your screenshot - I like the image though. Could you crop it?

MsJuniper · 31/03/2020 07:59

Here it is without the names.

How do you honestly THINK this will end?
Barbararara · 31/03/2020 08:01

Humans are hard to wipe out because we’re adaptable and clever little feckers, and as a species we have this cunning way of harnessing the peak intelligence of the species to develop science, knowledge and technology that benefits everyone. So even though we’re mostly thickos, we just need a few geniuses to get where we are.

Look at the responses to this - the organisation of resources, the adaption and development of technology. An f1 team building a new cpap mask in a week to reduce the demand for ventilators. A gin company producing hand gel. Scientists studying the virus in all sorts of ways. And as a species, we don’t sacrifice our vulnerable ones. We’ve stopped everything, plunged the world economy into free fall in an immense act of love to protect our weak and our old and give everyone a fighting chance.

Other species don’t have the same ability to adapt behaviour quickly. They evolve, yes, but instinct drives behavioural patterns which are slower to shift.
We can communicate from one side of the world to another, we can freeze knowledge in print so it can be studied in another place and even another century. We can disseminate information quickly.
And we are tenacious, determined wee feckers that are driven to win.

Unfortunately every one of these traits is also the downside of humanity - we don’t cull the herd, we use technology to bypass evolution (eg wearing glasses instead of letting the myopic get eaten), and we are anthropocentric to the detriment of other species.

sqirrelfriends · 31/03/2020 08:02

Even if the virus mutated to100% mortality rate, it wouldn't spread very far and that strain would die out on its own. People aren't very good at spread viruses round when they're dying in bed or dead.

Etinox · 31/03/2020 08:04

Thank you @Shinyfloors @MsJuniper 🤦🏻‍♀️

Leflic · 31/03/2020 08:10

You know the vast majority of people that get this are absolutely fine right?
