Has anyone you know been tested?

One of my cousin’s children developed symptoms and tested positive. Not serious symptoms but apparently they were tested (and hoping negative) to allow the parents to go back to work for 111 call centre and for benefits agency.

Wondered if anyone else had experience of this and if this was government strategy, and why keyworkers in the NHS aren’t getting tested up to now as surely they are more important?

Yes, a friend/colleague.

Had all the symptoms, cough, fever, felt rubbish etc. Test came back negative! Just regular flu. It goes to show even if you think you've had it, you might not have!

She had it early on when they were still testing everyone which is why she was tested I believe (had symptoms and someone else in the office had tested positive).

Yes three people - one in hospital (tested positive, all of her household got symptoms but weren’t tested - all have now recovered), one a HCP (in a private hospital who paid for a private test so she could return to work ASAP, her partner & one of their three children also developed symptoms - all recovered now), and one who was tested before he was admitted to ITU, the result didn’t come back before he died but he had classic x-ray changes so there was no doubt what it was.

My daughter’s housemate has just come out of isolation for classic symptoms but was untested - no one else has developed symptoms so far but they have another 5 days to isolate. Housemate is fine btw. I’m aware of another couple of almost certainly covid cases in dd’s university friends but obviously none tested as they weren’t severely unwell.

My brother works for a company who have bought a number of tests privately to use if their keyworkers are forced to isolate - I assume they could use them to test their family members if it meant getting them out of isolation quickly?

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 30/03/2020 22:26

I know someone who was tested a few weeks ago (before things went totally crazy) after returning from a high risk country and having developed symptoms. They tested negative.

I suppose some people who have come up as negative, may have had the virus, but the test been inaccurate ?

MeadowHay · 30/03/2020 22:40

My toddler was swabbed today - it was not the reason she had attended hospital and she had no CV symptoms at home. I'm told it's roughly a 3 day wait for results here due to the backlog of testing. I'm not allowed to visit her as need to be in isolation now, and DH isn't allowed to leave the room they are in. It is likely she will be discharged before the test result comes back, which they do often. However we don't have a car therefore isolation rules will be broken just in the journey he from the hospital. The hospital had no solution for this.

NuffSaidSam · 30/03/2020 22:45

I don't think there has been anything to suggest the tests are faulty SirVix. They probably just didn't have it.

ReverseGiraffe · 30/03/2020 22:49

Yes. My grandad was already in hospital, developed symptoms and then tested positive after a 72 hour wait. He shouldn't have still been in there, but there was a hold up on his discharge so I'm quite angry he's picked up the virus hospital.

MeanwhileAtNumber98 · 30/03/2020 22:49

A man in the village I used to live in was tested a couple of weeks ago. As I haven't heard the result I assume it was negative..word would have got round if it was positive.

ReverseGiraffe · 30/03/2020 22:51

*in hospital

HoldMyLobster · 30/03/2020 22:54

Not someone I know personally, but my children's school principal's parents were both tested and were both positive.

His father has died and he's waiting to see if his mother survives.

In the US though.

BanKittenHeels · 30/03/2020 22:57

DH and I have both been tested (front line NHS) and were both found to be negative. I am shielding now but had time at home before and after my testing.

starrynight19 · 30/03/2020 22:59

Yep two people both admitted to hospital with symptoms of it

Gingerkittykat · 30/03/2020 23:04

Yes, a relative who is a health visitor was tested on Friday and thankfully the results came back negative today.

A friend who is in a psychiatric hospital was tested yesterday but results not back yet. She has to isolate within her own room with staff coming in to see her wearing PPE.

SirVixofVixHall · 30/03/2020 23:06

I did read that the test is not 100% accurate in terms of false negatives, but positives are always accurate.

spinthebottle · 30/03/2020 23:09

Yes. He’s now very poorly and on a ventilator although initially was okay but went downhill very quickly Sad

SirVixofVixHall · 01/04/2020 22:50

Very sorry to read that spinthebottle . I hope he is improving soon.

TravellingSpoon · 01/04/2020 22:57

Yes, a member of staff at my sons school, tested positive, was in hospital over the weekend but back at home now.
