Checked in on SE contractor & devastating conversation

I co-ordinate a team of SE cleaners. We’ve emailed them nearly every day since we were shut down last week with any relevant websites for HMRC etc & to check on their welfare.
Today I phoned them individually to see how they were & if there’s anything I can help them with.
One of the cleaners is devastated & has no where to turn to - she’s having suicidal thoughts.
This is the direct result of not getting anything & no prospects - I’m sat here frightened for her & anyone else (inc me) that has slipped through the SE net.
& before anyone asks she’s only been SE since last year & no she doesn’t get paid cash in hand

Why can't she get universal credits? There might be a mutual aid community volunteers in her area.
She could get foodbank vouchers.
She could speak to samaritans.
Prospects..well she could do online learning or training.
Would there be work as hospital cleaner or in sanitization?

She can apply for UC

Babyroobs · 30/03/2020 22:55

Pretty much everyone can claim Uc unless they have savings over 16k or a working partner whose income takes them over the threshold. they have cancelled the minimum income floor for self employed I think so that it will be easier when work resumes. The only people who will have some difficulties with claiming Uc will be those who fail the habitual residency test.

Does she rent OP? UC will cover that, (or most of it) and if single, no DC she'll get around £380 per month in allowance. She should also contact her council asap for a form to get a council tax discount.
Does she have underlying health conditions? If not, I'm seeing lots of jobs for cleaners on Reed each day. She should filter to 'posted today' as it's fast moving.
