Furlough pay - can anyone help?

Hi guys, I’m a long term mumsnetter, but never posted. Have lurked for about 16 years (!) UCM, is that you?

I’d really appreciate a little advice, if anyone can help. My mum has been furloughed. Usually paid weekly, has a contract etc. Her work are saying that they aren’t going to pay her for the next two weeks and they will then backdate. This obviously means that she will be without money for a couple of weeks.

I’ve tried to find out online, but can’t really find an answer, so thought I’d see if anyone could help.

Thank you :)

I expect it's because they simply don't have the cash to pay her. It's not usual and not technically correct. However, her other option is to be laid off if they don't have the funds.

What does she expect them to do if they don’t have the money to pay her just now?

Thank you Devil, I did think that would be the case. Such a hard situation for everyone isn’t it.

Miggens, - they haven’t given that as a reason, she was just panicking and unsure if they could do that. Just wanted to see where she stood really.

It’s not great but by the time she takes action against them she’d have the money anyway
