Company closed - no refund

AIBU? Hired a car for weekend just gone which I cancelled two weeks ago (w/c 16th March, if not before). Should have had the deposit refunded same day or max within 2 days. As at today, still no deposit received. Went to company website to see a message saying offices now closed since 25th March. Called office number and person taking calls said that as office was now closed they couldn't issue a refund until they reopen (could be months!). I told him the date I cancelled the car hire and that the refund should have been done on the same day as the cancellation, to which he agreed. I said it was unacceptable that this wasn't done and even more so that they've closed down and not finalised any outstanding matters like this before doing so, and that they should not be retaining customers' money. I then get a barrage of 'well you haven't had to pay out over £6k of holiday pay; blah blah 'we've been going x amount of years', blah blah.. Totally irrelevant to me and does not justify their actions. Also, what about the responsibility of their staff member to issue the refund?! Very poor service even without CV. I've told them to refund back to my card as I presume they'll have online banking etc. Not much else I can do if they don't have access from home however. But AIBU for getting seriously narked about this? We could use that money to buy food..

Did you pay on a credit card? Your credit card company may be able to get this refunded for you but I'm not sure how long that would take. Might be worth giving them a call.

Ask your bank for advice, I've always found mine to be really good with things like that
