Diarrhoea and Covid19

FabulouslyElegantTits · 29/03/2020 08:04

I'm fairly sure that I've had Covid19. I'm not sure what 'day' I'm at as the tight chest/slightly hoarse voice that I put down to anxiety could have been the early stages.

I was very unwell Thursday and Friday with severe headache, fever/chills, and for around 12hrs really struggled to breathe. I also had a cough which has settled down to a few a day. I was too unwell to watch TV or play on my phone.

My question is, has anyone else had stomach pain and diarrhoea? This came on Friday and apart from the exhaustion is the only symptom I have now.

I've read it's a rare symptom but usually at the beginning?

There are lots of symptoms that are being reported other than a temp/cough. Loss of taste/smell and diarrhoea crop up a lot. All those stockpiled big rolls will come in useful.

FabulouslyElegantTits · 29/03/2020 09:26

I did debate not posting this - just to ensure that I will be able to buy a bog roll again one day 😂

It's considered an extremely rare symptom (I think less than 5% from what I remember).

Given that, as of yesterday morning, 87% of those tested for it tested negative, the odds are that you don't have it.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 29/03/2020 09:36

I don’t think it can be that rare a symptom as it’s mentioned as an option to tick on the Covid19 data survey being run by Kings College hospital

Lockheart · 29/03/2020 09:47

But Kings College are undertaking a survey to find out how common symptoms are. The inclusion of symptoms on there does not make them common.

I'm trying to find the WHO infographic which says diarrhea crops up 4% (from what I recall) of the time. Haven't found it yet but their general page says "very few" experience nausea or diarrhea.

Did that work 🤔? I'll try again.

onlinelinda · 29/03/2020 09:52

I had it,but at the beginning, and lasting 4 days. Your symptoms sound likely.

FabulouslyElegantTits · 29/03/2020 09:53

I've seen the 4% statistic too so did wonder.

The breathing thing was horrific, like nothing I've ever had before, I was boiling hot and literally unable to breathe properly, if I hadn't have had this I would have ruled CV out. My DH has also had a fever and cough that lasted 48hrs a few days earlier. He didn't have diarrhoea.

I'm wondering whether this is just an after effect of the virus on me?

OP posts:
Lockheart · 29/03/2020 09:53

Well that's not the exact one I was thinking of @LabStaff Grin but I think it's got the same data in it.

FabulouslyElegantTits · 29/03/2020 09:59

That's all the symptoms I've had. I'm not trying to convince anyone I've had it, it might just be coincidence.

The 87% of people testing negative surprises me as I though they only tested the very unwell who are in hospital? (Genuine question - not doubting you 🙂)

@onlinelinda

And have you tested positive?

OP posts:
Needsomegoodnews · 29/03/2020 10:07

@FabulouslyElegantTits Yes, definitely a symptom - I had it for about 6 days, alongside fever sore throat but at that stage was uncertain if CV. However after a ‘better’ day on day 6, I worsened with further fever, sweats and chills, shortness of breath, tight throat and chest which is all still persisting at day 13 post first fever. I’d be uncertain if diarrhoea alone but in combination it’s more likely. The 3 GPs I’ve spoken to during this all say it’s CV, even though not tested.

Lockheart · 29/03/2020 10:09

Up until yesterday, when they started testing frontline NHS workers, the tests were limited to those who had strongly indicative symptoms. I haven't checked the numbers from yesterday lunchtime, but yesterday morning it was something like out of 113k tests, 99k were negative. It was an 87% negative rate.

The common symptoms such as a cough and fever are not unique. And there are many other bugs going round the UK in March, including other coronaviruses. Covid-19 is one member of a very large family.

FabulouslyElegantTits · 29/03/2020 11:15

@Needsomegoodnews

How are you feeling today? I'm sorry you've had such a shit time.

Thanks for all your advice 👍🏻

onlinelinda · 30/03/2020 00:44

I have not tested positive. My doctor has monitored me and moved her diagnosis from possible to probable over a few days.

FabulouslyElegantTits · 02/04/2020 18:15

I'm on Day 9 (or 10) now and the diarrhoea continues, alongside excruciating fatigue and loss of sense of smell and taste.

My GP thinks it's Covid due to the more classic symptoms on days 1-5.

I'm taking Imodium now so am only 'going' 2-3 times a day rather than the 50+

I still feel shocking 😥

Needsomegoodnews · 02/04/2020 18:59

@FabulouslyElegantTits sorry to hear you're still suffering. If it's any help at all, I had diarrhoea on and off until about 10 days after my first bout (when my fever also first came up) and continued with fever, exhaustion and breathing symptoms through the second week. It's now 16 days and my guts finally settled and I feel much better, although still a bit weak, dizzy and tired. Day 14 was a turning point for me so hopefully you'll be through it soon.

Eyewhisker · 02/04/2020 19:16

There is a German study of 15 confirmed Covid cases and 4-5 of them had either loose stools or diarrhoea so it sounds probable.

FabulouslyElegantTits · 02/04/2020 20:51

Glad you're on the up - I thought I was yesterday then today was a bit shit! @Needsomegoodnews

Thanks, I think I've seen that too @Eyewhisker

@onlinelinda, are you all better now?

OP posts:
onlinelinda · 03/04/2020 13:21

I was better although not well for 3 or 4 days (can't even remember) and since day 18 bad chills again. Return to bed till this morning as too cold to get up. Day 20 now. Better this morning. Have been up and now returning to bed for afternoon although not too bad. Diarrhoea back last 2 days, including today. Tiny bit breathless but nothing much, although I do take inhalers, which probably help.

Taffyapple8 · 04/04/2020 10:48

My daughter and son bith had gastro issues then fever and cough. DP slight fever, diarrhoea and cough (he says smokers so...). Monday I came down with fever and headache and Tuesday and weds had diarrhoea. Have also been really nauseous throughout. Tast and smell diminishing and was having phantom smell Thursday and yesterday.

Taffyapple8 · 04/04/2020 10:48

Sorry about the typos

Needsomegoodnews · 04/04/2020 12:31

@onlinelinda After feeling better days 14-17 day 18 (yesterday) and today have been worse again, even having fever last night after several days without. It seems recovery is really slow for some of us Sad Hope you’re feeling better today and you too @FabulouslyElegantTits

FabulouslyElegantTits · 05/04/2020 08:40

How are you all today? I'm in day 12, I've lived on Imodium since Wednesday so am going to try and give it up and see how bad the diarrhoea is without it.

I can imagine every not being exhausted!

@onlinelinda are you feeling any better? you really have had it a long time haven't you 😕
