Is a dry sore throat a symptom?

I have what I would describe as a dry sore throat. I have had tonsillitis and laryngitis a few times and it is nothing like that.

It is similar to when you have talked, a lot and your throat is sore, but sort of because its dry and overused? Also a bit like that feeling in your throat you sometimes get before a cold, but not exactly the same.

I had a splitting headache yesterday, it was tension like headache, pain in neck as well as front of head.

Yesterday I coughed a bit, but not what I would call continuous, not by the NHS guidance. And it seemed to be because my throat felt dry.

Has anyone had this? I know there will be other bugs and viruses going round too.

I had these exact symptoms. Splitting head ache, hoarse dry throat. Some upper back pain. Would have thought nothing of it in other times.... who knows?

Exact same here too - and my daughter as well. Slight burning in chest too. At a different time I'd give this no thought and carry on. Anyone else?

Greenbutterlfy566 · 29/03/2020 00:54

Yes me. Sore throat. Headaches. Extra Body aches.

Roostersmum2 · 29/03/2020 00:55

Yep me too

Some upper back pain I had this aswell.

It's entirely possible alot of us have had it very mildly. A high percentage are asymptomatic or present so mildly they don't consider it possible because they don't have the hacking continuous cough or high fever.

Its quite frustrating when I keep seeing posters be shot down for querying mild symptoms because they don't have the textbook severe ones.

There's a huge three part thread on here, "my lungs are burning" where we all report pretty much the same symptoms. Mine started with the exact sore throat you describe.

Hi. I’ve had sinus pain and slight runny nose & headache on Thursday. Worse symptoms yesterday - throat a bit sore and headache on & off. Nasal drip running down back of throat. Still sinus pain in face. No temperature. Today feel tired even after nearly 9 hrs sleep and feel more unwell. Soft palette at back of throat seems thicker/swollen. Still got headache & face pain (forehead & cheeks). Constant trickle of congestion down back of throat causing very occasional cough just to clear throat. Still no temp. Ordinarily I would shrug this off as a sinus infection and I certainly would not be so obsessed with symptoms etc but am worried. Can the corona virus start like this without either a cough or a fever?

Can the corona virus start like this without either a cough or a fever

Absolutely. People have tested positive without having had a cough or fever at all. Idris Elba for example.

"Yesterday I coughed a bit, but not what I would call continuous"

Hmm stay at HOME

Mixitupalot · 29/03/2020 03:54

I’ve had a sore head and dry throat and aches for over a week now. I’ve googled the symptoms & because I don’t have a temp or cough didn’t think it was cause for concern.

Sameold2020 · 29/03/2020 06:35

Personally a lot of those symptoms are caused by anxiety. It has caused my GERD to reappear and I'm back on my tablets. Sore throat, coughing after eating, feel of tight throat, burn in the chest.

Casino218 · 29/03/2020 06:45

Yes they are symptoms. This is not the time to be shrugging them off.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 29/03/2020 06:51

I have had a sore throat for two weeks now. It's very odd it's just not going away. But I don't think it can be the virus as touch wood no other symptoms.

Northernsoullover · 29/03/2020 06:51

A couple from Aberdare tested positive after being on the cruise ship. They had no symptoms at all when they tested positive. I don't know if they went on to develop them.

StealthMama · 29/03/2020 06:57

I had a raging sore throat for 3 weeks that was awful at night prob due to dryness, with occasional headache and feeling like I wa coming down with something. It eventually passed.

But if it was covid I would assume my dh and dd would have got it to and they haven't.

BreathlessCommotion · 29/03/2020 09:27

@crustycrab I mean I literally coughed a few times. Thought, this might be it and then it went.

The reason I'm wondering mainly is yes, to see if I need to self isolate and because dh and dd have asthma and will be more careful around them. Which is very difficult with dd as she has ASD, isn't coping well and is very attached to me (and really not to dh). I don't want to put her through having to be distant from me for no reason.

Ours all started with a sore throat. I thought I had strep throat it was so painful.

A few days later the cough started and now we are all mucusy. It’s been about 3 weeks

2ndAugust · 30/03/2020 16:01

I had that, a few weeks before this all kicked off seriously. Was very under the weather all weekend with aches pain and what you describe. In retrospect I think I had it mildly, but as I had no cough, at the time did not think I did. Feel awful now that I only had one day away from work, but I did look into it, and it was only a couple of weeks later I started reading about people that had similar symptoms to me and had tested positive.
