Sorry I'm sure it's been done to death

What do we do if in a mental health crisis? Not go to a and e I assume as they are all very busy

Maybe Breathing Space, Samaritans etc? Make sure you call a reputable charity. Is it anxiety you’re having?

24 hours will pass, whether you call them or not.
Maybe give them a call as an investment in tomorrow.

How are your children doing?

daffodil1224 · 28/03/2020 21:18

They aren't being given as much attention as they should. 10 year old on PlayStation a lot. One year old eating snacks galore. 5 month in bouncer way too much.

daffodil1224 · 28/03/2020 21:19

You are right about the time passing anyway

OP posts:
LadyDoc1 · 28/03/2020 21:19

Are you alone in the house with your children? Do you feel you can keep yourself safe tonight?

Theodoreb · 28/03/2020 21:20

Hi you need to contact either your gp or right now out of hours the doctor can then decide whether or not you need a emergency appointment with crisis that's all you can do I'm afraid. Mental health services are really stretched right now here if you just want someone to talk too and I know how it feels to be where you are.

Chiyo666 · 28/03/2020 21:21

If you’re slicing your arms open then you need to go to A&E. we’re you not assigned a crisis team after your suicide attempt? They should have given you an out of hours number to call.

Theodoreb · 28/03/2020 21:32

@Chiyo666 I am well involved with mental health and unfortunately in most areas crisis is by referral only not sure if that's in all areas but it is in a lot. That's why I suggested out of hours as they can refer to crisis.

Theodoreb · 28/03/2020 21:33

But that's only due to staff being redirected because of the virus

LadyDoc1 · 28/03/2020 21:36

If not in crisis tonight please try Mind
www.mind.org.uk/information-support/helplines/
If you are in crisis tonight then please say

BraveLittleDragon · 28/03/2020 21:36

Our Crisis team is by self referral, and if you cannot self refer yourself because you are in a bad way they will have some visit you.

OP - I think you need to see someone for your arms though; do you have a minor injuries unit near you? I was in A and E last week and it was very quiet and very quick - all the COVID patients are taken to a ward that is not within A and E for their assessment.

Do you think you can get to either A and E or Minor Injuries safely? Do you have childcare in place if you chose to go?

BraveLittleDragon · 28/03/2020 21:37

Also, how do you feel deathly? Have you lost a lot of blood?

Jollitwiglet · 28/03/2020 21:38

According to a paramedic I saw on Wednesday, a+e is actually a lot quieter than usual at the moment. Obviously don't know if that's still the same or varies between hospitals.

Have you got anyone with you?

If you feel you cannot keep yourself safe tonight then please seek medical attention ASAP. Why do you feel you can't phone the Samaritans?

Chiyo666 · 28/03/2020 21:47

@Theodoreb surely someone who ends up in hospital after a suicide attempt is referred though. Not just released back into the world. I had a crisis team assigned to me.

PurpleFrames · 28/03/2020 21:52

Does the mental health team (out of hrs) have a mobile number you could text?

What is the outcome you want tonight lovely?

You could call 999 and they'd take you to a&e until you'd get assessed and the. Probably sent home lunchtime tomorrow or early hours. Who would look after your kids? Could a friend support?

If you stay safe and chat with us perhaps you'd avoid a bit of stress with the upheaval of sorting it all.

Of course if your life js in danger do call 999, or if you feel scared pm one of us your info and we can do it for you

LouMumsnet · 28/03/2020 22:00

We hope you don't mind, but when these threads are flagged up to us we usually add a link to our Mental Health resources.

You can also go to the Samaritans website, or email them on [email protected]. Support from other Mumsnetters is great and we really hope you will be able to take some comfort from your fellow posters, but as other MNers will tell you, it's really a good idea to seek RL help and support as well.

Take care, OP.

Been a while since we heard from you @daffodil1224 how are you feeling now?

BuzzingButterfly · 28/03/2020 23:19

I’ve been there recently @daffodil1224 I promise this is just a wave. It’ll be past by tomorrow, you just need to sleep on it. Talk here if you need to, but please stay safe. Go to a&e if you need to, sometimes there’s greater medical emergencies than this virus Flowers

daffodil1224 · 29/03/2020 14:58

Hi sorry I have just come back to this post I was too embarrassed to even look at it before. When I said I felt deathly I meant mentally not through blood loss.

Feel equally shit today tbh, trying to keep busy.

I need to find practical ways to cope. I don't have access to a crisis team, when I first went to the gp I was told to try mind but they had waiting lists of four months which is when I reached out to my hv and she managed somehow to get me an urgent app with psychiatrist. To finally get a diagnosis was a relief but of course now this is just pointless as the therapy won't be able to happen.

I realise people have it way worse than me but I can't help but be selfish and focus on my own mental health right now, I can't see the bigger picture x

OP posts:
BuzzingButterfly · 29/03/2020 16:29

@daffodil1224 good to hear from you, really glad you’re still around!

Don’t be embarrassed please, thousands are feeling exactly the same right now and none of us know how to cope with it. Feeling really shitty myself today too.

It’s not selfish to focus on how you’re feeling or to not be able to see the bigger picture, right now is absolutely the time to be focusing on yourself. If it helps, live hour by hour instead of day by day, find one thing to occupy you for that hour (like a book, cleaning, colouring or anything else that can hold your focus). Take a break then find something to get you through the next hour. If you’re able to, batch cooking is a great way to waste a day. Remember to keep getting out for a walk even if it’s only for 10-15 mins. I scrubbed the kitchen floor by hand just for something to do so absolutely anything that fills time works. YouTube exercise videos help a bit too. Extra screen time for the kids is not a failure and keeping them focused on things that don’t involve the current real life crisis is a good thing too. I hope the days get a bit easier for you Flowers

daffodil1224 · 29/03/2020 16:58

@BuzzingButterfly thank you 💐

I will try to take it hour by hour I think, it just seems more bearable that way.

May also give my kitchen floor a scrub. God knows it needs one.

I hope you are feeling okay xx

OP posts:
cakeandchampagne · 29/03/2020 17:09

@daffodil1224 It’s not selfish to try to take good care of yourself. Flowers
Remember to eat.

LadyDoc1 · 29/03/2020 17:19

Absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about, I understand it's difficult though.
Do you have the concentration to watch or read things? When I've been unwell I simply couldn't, and it was so frustrating. Colouring (maybe even doodling?) keeps the conscious mind occupied and then you can hopefully get a break if constantly going over things in your head or having intrusive thoughts.
Also, I've found making an effort to 'blink' away upsetting thoughts works really well, other people snap an elastic hair tie on the wrist or say out loud 'No!' and move room or switch the lights on or off, anything to change your environment.
All the best x
