Will the government be able to afford furlough for one year?

They said the scheme is initially for 3 months. But some doctors have predicted it could take a year before some normality I.e. back to work without lock down. An injection could take another year to make.

So will the government be able to afford the furlough scheme (80 percent wages paid) for a year or longer depending on the situation?

A year of furlough would cost the government around (£700-£900bn)

Not to mention the extra costs they have I.e. business grants, universal credit rise etc.. I am guessing it will be 2010 all over hard austerity in the next 25 years at least?

Very few businesses will need to be closed for the entire year, even if it takes that long for life to get back to normal.

As for can they afford it? I guess they can print money and worry about inflation another day....
