I can't see how this can be safe to do in the future. Do you think we will have a permanent lockdown on travel outside if the UK

No. People easily forget and will not give up their travel plans long term, for leisure or business. How many airlines will survive is another matter. I think it may have long term effects such as virtual meetings and socialising.

There are a lot of people who have to travel outside the UK for work purposes. Right now I am VERY thankful that there is still a few airlines flying otherwise I would not be getting home and the workers who need to come out here to replace my team would not be able to come. There are a lot of displaced workers around the globe right now who have been away from their families for months and would very much like to be able to get home but without relief travel, they cannot leave their posts for safety reasons.

In the future we can reasonably expect to be vaccinated against Covid so travelling abroad won’t be an issue.
