How do you report mass gatherings?

I've tried ringing 101, it says to use the website for Met Police. On their website you can only get so far, then it says ring 101! This is to report groups in North London.

What do you mean by mass gathering? Is it like a mass debate?

littlemixarerubbish · 28/03/2020 14:56

Just keep trying 101. What sort of gathering is it?

Sargass0 · 28/03/2020 14:57

Wouldn't worry then by the time it gets through to them- they will have probably dispersed

heartsonacake · 28/03/2020 15:01

Do not overwhelm 101 with this. We are in a national crisis.

The police have now set up hotlines and online portals for local areas so you can report this kind of thing and not put an unnecessary strain on 101.

twosoups1972 · 28/03/2020 15:24

It's a group of people baking together, the baked product is to be boxed and sold.

playthestation · 28/03/2020 15:29

So people working?

Laiste · 28/03/2020 15:33

What, they are co workers? Or neighbors?

Local face book page might help with numbers to call. But i think we'd like a bit on context out of interest. I mean, there are a group of people baking together near me. For the purpose of selling. But it's called the Tesco bakery ...

mumtumdocare · 28/03/2020 15:34

People are still allowed to work. Not exactly the same as a mass pub crawl 🙄

twosoups1972 · 28/03/2020 16:00

They are not social distancing, they are working close together in a small kitchen, no gloves.

OP posts:
playthestation · 28/03/2020 16:02

Maybe just ask them what the deal is if you have a problem with what they are doing? Presumably you are with them?

user1353245678533567 · 28/03/2020 16:02

How do you know this?

Sargass0 · 28/03/2020 16:03

Is it the WI?

user1353245678533567 · 28/03/2020 16:06

To make sure people are staying at home and apart from each other, the Government is also stopping all public gatherings of more than two people.

Baking in a kitchen is not a public gathering?

Apolloanddaphne · 28/03/2020 16:08

I thought a mass gathering was a group of over 500 people? This sounds like people at work. How many of them are there?

heartsonacake · 28/03/2020 16:09

twosoups1972 I work in the food industry; gloves are extremely unhygienic.

People seem to think wearing them means they’re “safe”, so then they go round touching anything and everything, contaminating things left right and centre. They don’t change the gloves and they don’t wash their hands.

I would certainly never eat anywhere where food was prepared with gloves. It’s just grim. Trust me, you don’t want them to wear gloves.

Have you been following the news?

twosoups1972 · 28/03/2020 16:20

They’re not working, it’s a social activity. Someone posted a video on a local FB group I am on.

OP posts:
playthestation · 28/03/2020 16:26

Who are they planning to sell to?

twosoups1972 · 28/03/2020 16:29

I don’t know, it’s a religious community

OP posts:
Apolloanddaphne · 28/03/2020 16:30

@Mrs EricBana Yes I read the news. I know Nicola Sturgeon said something about mass gatherings a few weeks and the figure of 500 was mentioned so that's what made me think that was the terminology for a very large group. I am totally aware of the current advice.

EasterElf · 28/03/2020 16:33

I don’t think the police will give a shit. The bakers aren’t in public and there aren’t hundreds of them. I expect you also don’t know what protective measures are in place - maybe they have all been self isolating for two weeks prior etc. You can keep trying 101 but I doubt it will get you anywhere.
