Is this profiteering?

Some locals have set up a “fruit and veg” delivery service. They don’t usually have a shop, all work in other industries. They are working out of a local business premises.

They are taking orders for fruit and veg boxes, massively overpriced and delivering them to people’s houses. There are 6 of them involved. Videos on Facebook showing them all at each other’s houses, no social distancing, driving up and down to Spitalfields market every night to collect goods to sell the next day.

If you didn’t previously run a food shop, can you suddenly just start one up after restrictions?

Yes it's profiteering and unethical in my view.

Yes sounds like profiteering

mynameiscalypso · 28/03/2020 15:47

That's ridiculous! I ordered a box from one of the companies in New Covent Garden Market who are now doing home deliveries and I got way more than that for £25! Disgraceful.

cushioncovers · 28/03/2020 16:32

Fucking hell op that's disgraceful.

thisenglishlife · 28/03/2020 16:38

Ignoring the shameless profiteering, they shouldn't be at each other's houses. Call the local police.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/03/2020 16:43

That's ridiculous. Is anyone fool enough to buy it?

By way of comparison, we got a veg box last week from a local company who usually deliver from wholesalers to pubs etc.
It included half a dozen each of apples, pears, satsumas, bananas; 5 good sized tomatoes, a lettuce and cucumber; a good sized bag of mushrooms; carrots, a cauliflower, 2kg spuds, a turnip and two enormous onions. £15 .
