Worried about symptoms

For about 5 days I had a mild sore throat which turned into chills a dry cough and a temp of 37.4, low grade fever ? I also ached all over and felt weak. I had this for a week then I felt better for a couple of days apart from tiredness but now it’s back again ?! Does this sound like a from of coronavirus? Would it come back again? I feel like someone has put bricks on my chest and it’s very sore.

Given that approximately 85% of those tested are negative, and bearing in mind that they will only be testing those where the symptoms are strongly indicative of potential novel coronavirus, the odds are that you do not have it.

Even if it was coronavirus, then currently there is little information about whether it grants any immunity, and if it does, for how long that lasts. So it is possible you could get it again if it was coronavirus.

you should be fine, there is no point speculating as you wont be tested. just follow the guidance for self-isolation, and steps to take if it gets worse or doesnt go away

Thanks I wonder what’s wrong with me then, I’ve never felt ill like this before it’s very odd. I wish they’d kept the drive by swab tests

Just isolate.

X1402 · 28/03/2020 12:22

@Pentium85 obviously I will was just seeing if anyone else had similar symptoms to me or thought it sounds like corona

So if 85% tested do not have it, what exactly are they presenting with??

Lockheart · 28/03/2020 12:29

Presumably fever and coughs @tupperwaretowers, which can be caused by a myriad of winter bugs which are in plentiful supply in the UK in March. Covid-19 is just one small branch of a very large family.

From the gov.uk website: As of 9am on 27 March 2020, a total of 113,777 people have been tested, of which 99,234 were confirmed negative and 14,543 were confirmed positive.

So that's 87.2% negative in fact.

Thank you for this. I could do with your levelheadedness at the moment.

FWIW there are certainly cases which have not been counted, either because they have not been tested as the symptoms were too mild or because they are asymptomatic. And at the moment, if your symptoms are mild, you are unlikely to be tested anyway now the NHS is under major strain. So it's not at all impossible that the OP could have it.

However the fact that the targeted testing is showing such a low rate of Covid-19 does indicate that even if you do have the classic fever and cough, you are far more likely to have something else.
