MiL and daily newspaper

How can I get through to 80 year old MiL that going to the local shop and buying a newspaper every day isn't a good idea.

She lives with FiL who is mid-80s and riddled with health problems.

You can't.🙄

I sympathis OP but I think you might struggle. All you can do is explain to her the concise facts and then it's up to her to take that risk or not. Would she be breaking the habit of a lifetime by not getting her paper?

We were talking about this in our online coffee break this week. Almost everyone with elderly parents was having this exact problem. That included someone whose parents are in northern Italy and still keen to go shopping every day.

It's her life, dont forget she's of a much tougher generation

My FIL is adamant he needs his paper every day. Will not listen to reason at art

If your MIL has no health conditions, then she merely needs to follow the social distancing guidance as a vulnerable but not high risk person. This is true even if her husband is shielding.

She is allowed to go out for a walk and to get a newspaper. It’s essential travel for two reasons- daily exercise and to stay abreast of government guidance/news. So long as she does social distancing and practices good hygiene I don’t see why you feel the need to confine her in her home.

It’s also her choice/decision.

I don't feel the need to confine her in her home and they can get the news on TV and their digital radio.
