Is anyone else from Sheffield and worrying about the very high number of cases here? Why is it so high? 😖

football a couple of weeks ago?

ShowerTheHorse · 27/03/2020 21:43

Oh I didn’t know football was on! I don’t follow it so wouldn’t know. Our cases are now second to London. It’s unbelievable just can’t believe this is happening. I’m scared to even go to the shop.

I agree, why so high here? I only know of one confirmed case (friend of a friend). Is there more testing happening here?

ShowerTheHorse · 27/03/2020 21:54

I know of only one confirmed case too although he is very poorly and on a ventilator, otherwise healthy and well. And young. Only 50. So scary

I think some of the earliest diagnosed patients from one of the cruise ships were sent to the Hallamshire? Sure I read that somewhere but obviously they will have been under strict quarantine at that time.

Judging by the number of people around me who don't think social distancing applies to them, it also possible that people are just not following the rules, taking this seriously and are passing it between themselves unknowingly until is too late. Add in the stuff you see in local face book pages and local newspapers where groups from different cultures are all still hanging out together on street corners, you've probably got a pretty good idea of why it's so high.

It's made me really nervous about going out to get shopping, but I'm wearing gloves, observing distancing and wrapping a scarf round my face!

My hands are sore from all the washing they're getting and I'm fed up of wiping down door handles & light switches. I'm doing everything I can, I just wish others would do the same.

I have no advice to help you feel less scared, I think you can only do what makes you feel better about it. You've still got to eat, just keep outside contact to a minimum.

Probably just because it will increase hugely form this weekend. Any large city like Sheffield will be at risk because of density of population, lots of people living in flats/ overcrowded conditions etc. Birmingham , Manchester, London are all increasing.

TheQueef · 28/03/2020 10:48

I had an o p at the RHH on the same day as the two confirmed cruise passengers.
They have an infectious disease ward already so it was the obvious choice.

The football and student population plus the cramped (see page hall for 25 people per house) living conditions will have an impact.

The hospitals were chaotic all ready with building works.

It’s because Sheffield is testing more
