Would be grateful to hear from anyone in relation to the above.

My Tinnitus has been worse - as it is whenever I have any sort of cold/flu/bug - so I've had far more whistles and hisses louder than usual; most viruses in the family (if not all, I'm not a virus expert) can cause inflammation and swelling in the nose, throat and eustachian tubes, after all.

TheMemoryLingers · 27/03/2020 20:57

Following, as I have had really bad tinnitus the last few days - not something I normally suffer from unless my sinuses are badly blocked, which they aren't although I've had the odd sniffle and an on off sore throat for three weeks.

damnitnotlistening · 27/03/2020 20:58

Yes the same. My tinnitus became quite horrendous but it’s getting better. Two weeks post virus.

Fatted · 27/03/2020 21:00

Are you sure it's not just a sinus or ear infection?

Phillipa12 · 27/03/2020 21:02

My son has a hearing loss and when hes full of cold and for a few weeks after his hearing drops by 30 dbs, we found this out at his annual hearing test when he had just got over a cold but his results were much lower than normal. Apparently its very common.

Thanks for your replies. I am in a dilemma. I contacted my GP surgery late this afternoon because I have suffered a sudden hearing loss in my left ear and have had tinnitus for several weeks. I was examined very promptly and then went back home as the doctor said he would ring me to discuss. No evidence of wax. If we had no coronavirus emergency, then ordinarily I would be prescribed steroids and given an emergency ENT appointment. The steroids would be given in case it was a particular kind of virus which can cause permanent hearing loss if not treated within 24 hours. Unfortunately, steroids are not recommended if you have coronavirus because they suppress the immune system and can complicate the treatment of corona. Not enough testing kits to determine whether I have corona or not, so I'm basically left with risking possible permanent hearing loss if I dont take the steroids, or serious problems if I do have coronavirus and take them. You couldnt make it up!

Well that sucks

Pantsinthewash · 27/03/2020 21:27

Yep!

Crap, but being alive with Tinnitus/hearing loss on one side is a whole lot better than having non inflamed ears but dead.

Hope both problems resolve quickly.

My thinking too, Mitzik!

Thanks to all who replied.

@Pantsinthewash

Did you ever find out what caused it? Has it resolved

Pantsinthewash · 07/10/2021 05:06

Yes, it did resolve after about a day, thankfully. I didn't have any other symptoms of Covid thankfully, and as far as I am aware I haven't had it. It was probably just coincidence. Have you experienced similar?

Covidworries · 07/10/2021 09:25
