My BFF is a paramedic. Last night a young girl (we'll call her Amelia) nearly died. She is quite a sick little girl and my BFF has been out to her on numerous occasions. Because of her health issues, she deteriorates quickly so if she has a slight temp then it is an ambulance. Last night her mum called an ambulance and was told that there was a bit of a wait. So mum tried uber. They wouldn't take her. She waited for 4 hours for an ambulance. In that time, Amelia deteriorated rapidly. Her temp soared and she began to fit. Normally Amelia has received antibiotics in the first hour and things are fine. My BFF was so upset to see Amelia in that state because she had been non stop to a lot of people who could have made their own way to hospital but a lot didn't need hospital treatment but exaggerated their symptoms to get an ambulance quicker. Amelia now has sepsis. She isn't out of the woods yet but things are fortunately looking up. It could have been so much worse. Please don't be afraid to call 999 if you genuinely need an ambulance but if you can get there yourself, then please do. We need to pull together and help our amazing, overstretched NHS so they can treat those who are really sick.
