Really scared I have a bit of a slight burning chest come on this afternoon, no cough no high temp no aches really no other symptoms just a bit of burning in my chest. I'm shitting myself as I'm a smoker I have thrown them away now I have tried to quit so many times but always gone back now I will stop.
My husband did have a cold this week he had body aches felt tired and had a chesty cough we did kiss the other day so I'm half wondering if it's just a cold but due to anxiety I'm panicking so much.
Also does anyone know anyone who's had Coronavirus that smokes and was ok? I'm mid 20s.
Thank You

I'm no doctor, but with no fever we and no cough it's unlikely you have it.

I absolutely sympathise. I've had symptoms this week which could have a tenuous link but unlikely to be CV. Try to stay calm and look after yourself (and keep off the cigs).

megletthesecond · 27/03/2020 19:35

Same here. I don't know if it's anxiety or I'm really ill.
I guess it'll become clear in 48hrs.

Hoohaahoo · 27/03/2020 19:35

Don’t forget there are other bugs out there!

megletthesecond · 27/03/2020 19:38

I haven't been near anyone in a week, we've been at home and out for a few walks. No shops either.

IWantT0BreakFree · 27/03/2020 19:39

All the usual colds and bugs are still going around don’t forget, so try not to agonise over every tiny symptom. It could be any number of things. Be vigilant but not obsessive. Practice some relaxation and mindfulness techniques (Google for ideas).
You are young and even if it is Coronavirus you are unlikely to become critically ill. Most people will experience mild symptoms according to the research we have.

gingerbreadslice · 27/03/2020 19:41

Thank you for all your replies it's a horrible time we are living in at the moment. I think I'll try do some of the headspace app later to calm me down.
I keep forgetting also that there are just normal coughs and colds going about.

I've been isolating with suspected Covid-19. I am a smoker. Didn't even quit or cut down when my symptoms began. I know, I know! It's been about 10 days since my first symptoms. Days 6-8 were the worst. I was quite unwell. Severe Sore throat, dry cough and headache, etc. Yesterday and today I'm feeling much better. Today was the first day I didn't need to take paracetamol. Can't be certain if it was actually Covid-19 or not as I haven't been tested. I'm early twenties.

megletthesecond · 27/03/2020 19:52

What really frightens me is that it gets worse as it progresses. IME colds and flu usually start quickly then settle down. And CV apparently doesn't.

Scottishgirl85 · 27/03/2020 20:21

Try to remain calm and rational, it could be something else or it could be COVID. The majority of people in the UK will get COVID before a vaccine is available, but only a small percentage will sadly die. The current restrictions are to try to flatten the curve and ease pressure on the NHS, ie slow the spread, not stop it. Hopefully this reality check will mean you improve your overall health by quitting smoking, I think a lot of people will improve their lifestyles after this is over, which is great!

Lockheart · 27/03/2020 20:48

Considering that 87% (as of now per the gov website) of people who have been tested for this disease did not have it, and bearing in mind that they will only be testing those where the symptoms strongly suggest it is a possibility, the overwhelming likelihood is that you do not have coronavirus.

gingerbreadslice · 27/03/2020 20:48

@Workingwoes Oh god that sounds tough how did it start for you? I really hope I haven't got it. It's probably just a cold but I've scared myself either way 🤦🏽‍♀️

@Lockheart That's very reassuring thank you I'm not usually such a knob and dramatic just very frightened

@gingerbreadslice it started as a very very mild and occasional dry cough. So mild and so occasional for the first two days I shrugged it off as nothing. Especially being a smoker who coughs slightly more than usual anyway. It was only when it got it a little bit more frequent on Day Three that I thought it was somethig more and began self isolating. By Day 6-7 the coughing had become much more frequent. I then had a severe sore throat and headache for about three days. The pain in my throat when I swallowed was so bad it would wake me up during the night. Kept dosed up on paracetamol, drunk lots of fluids. Now, Day 10, sore throat is practically gone, headache has gone and I just have what I had at the beginning, a very very mild dry cough.

gingerbreadslice · 27/03/2020 22:45

@Workingwoes Wow I think that's similar to what my brother had, can I ask if you've had any white spots or tonisilitjs type symptoms too? When you have had the sore throat? I haven't been near him but he had the bad headache and throat absolutely in agony with it and they wouldn't test him at all. In the end he had antibiotics and they just said it's tonisilitis Shock.

OP posts:
Workingwoes · 27/03/2020 23:54

@gingerbreadslice No, no tonsillitis symptoms, no white spots. Have never suffered with tonsillitis before or had any problems with my tonsils. Come to think of it, I've never really suffered with a sore throat before. This was a first for me. The sore throat. Not something I've ever experienced before. It was strange because the sore throat, it came on so suddenly, almost out of nowhere, and then three days later, as quickly as it came, it went.

gingerbreadslice · 28/03/2020 08:44

@Workingwoes So weird it defo sounds like you may have had CV. Hope you feel better soon

OP posts:
gingerbreadslice · 28/03/2020 20:06

@Workingwoes How are you keeping hope your well

ScarlettDarling · 05/04/2020 19:24

How are you op? Did your symptoms progress?

ShastaBeast · 05/04/2020 19:29

Lockheart - the testing won’t be for people with symptoms necessarily. Initially a lot of testing was via contract tracing. I’d suspect more recent testing of ill people in hospital will be a precautionary measure - which ward to put them on. We don’t want non infected ill people hospitalised on a covid ward. The NHS staff testing will be overly cautious- testing because a child has a slight fever which equals 14 days off work. Kids get fevers all the time for no apparent reason.

The people not tested are those with mild symptoms.

ShastaBeast · 05/04/2020 19:31

But if you are young and healthy you are likely to be fine and in the 80-85% of mild cases.

gingerbreadslice · 05/04/2020 22:10

@ScarlettDarling Hi I am ok touch wood I started sneezing and having itchy eyes during the week since I posted this so put it down to Hayfever, I do have a sore throat now so I'm petrified but I'm hoping it's just a cold. I've no cough or temperature or any symptoms at all just a sore throat on one side still which comes and goes it is strange. It is setting of my anxiety a lot Sad
