Be totally honest - have you been able to stick to 2 meter rule in supermarket?

I haven't though I really tried and succeeded for most of it I think. I don't want to be within half a bastard mile of anyone. It was 6.15am. I wore gloves, masked my face, literally ran away from people and shielded myself with my trolley when possible but after measuring 2 meters it's actually quite far :-( even at the till I don't think it's 2 meters from the cashier or if we walk past each other in the aisle. Then there were guards stood outside on either side of the fucking door I must have looked a right twat running past them. I've washed my hands, wiped down the shopping and had a shower. I'm so fucking paranoid.

Shops near us seem to have pop up pensioners around every turn. (I'm 60 so I can say this). Worst place is our health food shop, I'm not going there until ......whenever.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 27/03/2020 16:57

No. Went to Lidl today for first time in ages, they were limiting number of people in store but it was still too many I think. Too many people still shopping in pairs - why not just one of you go in and one stay outside?

It was like being on the motorway - if I left a gap in front some fucker would fill it. Am not keen to go back - local butcher and baker much less peopley as although small shops only allow 2 in at a time.

Frenchdoors1 · 27/03/2020 16:57

@rslsys

Anyone else find themselves holding their breath when other people cross your path or come close?

Yes, I'm finding myself keeping my mouth closed tight without realising

niffynoonoo · 27/03/2020 17:00

me too !! I thought I was the only one doing that.

niffynoonoo · 27/03/2020 17:02

I found sainsburys more packed than Lidl which seemed to have less shoppers in any 1 time. Lidl easy to do the distancing. sainsburys a bit of a mare. Lidl also encouraging to wipe trollies after use. nothing sainsburys.

Makeitgoaway · 27/03/2020 17:02

No. I've just been for the first time since it was introduced and I found it really stressful. Not because I'm particularly worried for myself but I found it really uncomfortable to be not quite following the rules and there were clearly people there who were worried, I didn't want to traumatise them further. I also really felt for the staff.

I thought a small supermarket might be easier but the isles aren't 2m wide (or maybe but only just) so you can't pass anyone.

I did a normal weekly shop basically bread, milk, fruit and veg and a Friday pizza treat Blush but was only allowed 2 milks. There was loads of milk and this now means I will have to go back before the week is up. Has anyone else found they are having to shop more frequently than usual? It seems a bit daft when there is plenty.

Apolloanddaphne · 27/03/2020 17:03

Yes I did. It was very easy. Mostly because the supermarket was almost empty. Maybe 10 people in total in the whole store. I stood well back from the check out operator.

jasjas1973 · 27/03/2020 17:05

No, but to be honest, i am more concerned about people handling goods and groceries they then don't buy, which someone else then takes home and more family members handle.

If you walk through a cloud of mist someone has, just seconds earlier, coughed out, the 2m rule is pointless.

To me it looks like CV19 is lot more contagious than we've been led to believe.

eggandonion · 27/03/2020 17:05

I have the urge to boss people around. Step aside madam, wait there sir...

Ohffs66 · 27/03/2020 17:06

I tried today but it really doesn't work if no-one else is trying! I'd head into an empty aisle, stop to get what I needed then some idiot would appear right next to me with a millisecond. Seriously mate just wait a sec until I've headed away from the cream crackers! I ended up doing a sort if drive by approach where i was never still for too long.

There was just me and one other person in masks and gloves joking to each other (loudly from over 2m away obvs!) that we were the only ones who gave a shit. I tried to stay far away from the cashier but that was quite tricky because the aisle bit was narrow. I tried not to breathe too much when anyone else was near, no idea if that was useful or not! Hoping not to have to go again for about 10 days now.

Francina670 · 27/03/2020 17:14

No not even remotely possible.

maggiso · 27/03/2020 17:24

Sainsburys was quite difficult - it seemed to be the older ladies ( I suppose I am one too) mindful of social distancing. The store had no obvious extra measures in place and the aisles are too close together to keep 2 m apart when passing. Staff were stacking shelves so also partly blocking aisles - although that was probably why there was some stock available. There was food though - not everything but I got much of what I needed. I just hope I did not also get the virus!
Marks and Spencer’s foodhall ( next door to Sainsburys - knew they would have a particular item we needed) had got things set up very differently. Staff outside pointed to the queue and markings placed each waiting customer 2 m apart- and 2 m from those coming out. They only allowed a few in to shop at once , and had a one in one out policy. A member of staff was wiping handles of retuned baskets. It all seemed well organised. Only alternate tills were open. It was just about possible to stay 2 m away from the checkout staff ( with a quick rush past with held breath!) .

ShanghaiDiva · 27/03/2020 17:31

I also went to m&s today and only a few people allowed in at a time. 2m distance not really possible as they are also restocking shelves, but everyone was being polite and civilised and marinating a reasonable distance. Good distancing at the checkout.

user1471439240 · 27/03/2020 17:33

I should imagine there is more risk from touching items on the shelves that people have fingered. Same with freezer doors etc. Guessing every little helps tho.

Krazykitty · 27/03/2020 17:35

Anyone else find themselves holding their breath when other people cross your path or come close?

Yep me too

happytoday73 · 27/03/2020 17:40

Asda monday- managed it well. Local lidl for a top up today was hopeless... Corner shop would have been better for distancing... .

EwwSprouts · 27/03/2020 17:43

Went to M&S food only at lunchtime and it was well organised. One in one out. Queued about 10 mins to get in but then mainly only 2 in each aisle. Well stocked apart from eggs, pasta & some tinned stuff.

Thesuzle · 27/03/2020 17:45

No, Aldi this morning whilst making us queue to get in with spacing, once in we were too close, then at the checkouts, a two metre gap between us to the till but the next till over, we were close to the other shoppers.

Fireandflames666 · 27/03/2020 17:46

I've done my best also but sometimes it's pretty unavoidable, especially when some people aren't paying attention to the rule.

Itsmybirthday19 · 27/03/2020 17:49

No, I've got a whole thread about this 😄

ilovecakeandwine · 27/03/2020 17:57

I thought it was quite difficult, some observing some oblivious. It also annoyed me slightly that someone would be really slow and I couldn't overtake iyswim .
I felt a bit stressed and I couldn't get handwash and I forgot to see if any wash up liquid as a alternative.
I felt some of the staff didn't want to be there and were getting fed up of saying keep behind the line .
I really don't want to go again unless I'm desperate.

Laiste · 27/03/2020 17:58

Medium sized Tesco yesterday. My first time out for 8 days.

Boy have things changed!
Last time i was in there it was packed to the gills with people - like xmas eve - hardly any food on the shelves and everyone physically pushing their way past each other and the noise level was high.

Yesterday they were regulating numbers going in and there were apx enough people to make a max of 2 or 3 per aisle. No one spoke. It was SILENT. No one smiled. No one looked anyone in the eye. Some literally flattened themselves against the shelves to avoid others, some did the speed scuttling thing when trapped in a bottle neck, some went on as usual. I'm afraid i did a mixture of all 3 and got more paniced as time went on Blush

As usual everyone wanted to all be at certain bits of the shop at the same time and at first it was tricky trying to remember to keep the 2m rule. By the end of the shop it was 2nd nature, but, like a pp, i found it very stressful and distressing. More than i expected.

Rang DH on the way home and blurted i hated it and don't want to do it ever again. Hmm Obvs i will .... probably next tue. Great.

NeverYouMind123 · 27/03/2020 17:58

I'm absolutely shitting myself. I even threw all the clothes I was wearing straight on a hot wash. If I'm still healthy in 2 weeks and I need a top up I would literally pay a supermarket £500 to deliver a £30 food shop to my house.

What the fuck is going on?! 😩

I'm not joking about a hula hoop either I think it would be a great idea. A big plastic circle we can wear with braces. Or a bubble, even better.
