Violence/crime increasing

Last night there was a mass brawl in my street. Never, ever seen anything remotely like it in the 20-odd years I've lived here. About a dozen youngish men, fighting and shouting - it was very loud and very frightening. It went on for a while, but when the police van arrived they scattered in all directions. No idea who they were and didn't recognise any of them.

It could have been coincidence I suppose - but also it could have been because people are pent up, bored, angry, drinking at home and some people are just arseholes to begin with

There have also been reports of muggings and people spitting 'coronavirus' at emergency services here. And reports of DV have already increased, which is heartbreaking.

How is it where you are? Do you think it will get worse? Friends in countries that have been in lockdown for longer have told me it's calm there. But are eerily deserted streets and police busy elsewhere a recipe for trouble do you think?

I don't think it will increase. I think that it will change. I am scared for any DV victims isolated with their abusers but drunken fights in town at the weekend won't be happening right now.

I don't know, I hope not. But some of the things that have happened lately have made me so angry. There have been ambulances targeted with their wheels having nails drilled into them, yobs launching bikes and other stuff from buildings, NHS workers being mugged for their passes, a school broken into and all food supplies stolen, supermarket delivery vans purposely set alight. I hate that these kind of people live among us. Who knows what these sorts will get up to next, they clearly have nothing better to do than wreck people's lives. Scary.

Our hospital got broken into and damage done teenagers on the prowl spitting at people coughing in there faces other not teens but young adult males in church doorways smoking weed there is a camera they give no fucks about it

Crime has actually dropped quite dramatically.

QuimJongUn · 27/03/2020 14:08

@ChipotleBlessing doesn't seem to have near me. Just been on the local news that two supermarkets were ran raided last night and the alcohol stolen.

And DV has already increased.

There's something quite unsettling about streets which were teeming with life just ten days ago now being completely empty. Me and DH went for a short walk yesterday evening and didn't encounter another soul - it was rush hour on what's ordinarily a very busy road. I hate to say it but I can see some people taking advantage of that.
