Furlough

My company is asking if we want to be furloughed and asking for volunteers. Should the staff be making this decision or the company?

They probably have a model which tells them X% of staff need to be furloughed or the business goes bust. If people don't volunteer then they will be chosen anyway.

????? They are asking for people who may not have any vulnerable family members, or just feel the need to keep working, to volunteer to keep the company ticking over, to the benefit of everyone else... offering furlough to anyone who feels they need/want to take it.

WHY are you questioning this? It is exactly the same procedure as they would use during a round of redundancies and seems to be a very sensible option.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 27/03/2020 08:08

And yes, as Majestic said, as per redundancies, the next stage is telling people...

Thank you

Sensible for company to ask for volunteers. There will be some people who will be able to continue working easier then others. If they don’t get enough volunteers then they will just pick people.

I’d have killed for the opportunity to choose. Instead I’m on short time working and therefor less money than the furlough would give.
