Fever not going down!

Please help, I’m getting A bit worried, my DS age 3 has had a cough for the last 5 days, it’s quite. A chest cough but no fever, yesterday I developed a fever, it’s gotten quite high at some points when I delayed taking paracetomal, I’m finding that even with paracetomal it’s lowering it to around 37.7 but never lower than that. Is this normal. When I say it’s got quite high it was at over 39

Technically they class a fever as above 37.8 so you are getting it under that threshold with paracetamol which means it's probably ok.

You're clearly unwell, but I wouldn't say there is cause to panic or seek medical assistance.

Keep on with the paracetamol. Rest. Lots of liquids.

And obviously you need to both self isolate.

If you develop more severe symptoms contact 111.

How are you otherwise? Do you feel delirious? Is there another adult you are in contact with?

Generally speaking short term fevers are your body fighting the infection which isn’t a bad thing on its own. Obviously there’s a point where you body may get carried away and you need help.

Keep up with your paracetamol doses, keep your windows open if you can and keep well hydrated. Rest as much as you can and make sure you’re in regular contact with another adult so they can be alert to any changes in your lucidity.

Sorry I just wanted to add that hydration means more than just water. I like a teaspoon of marmite dissolved in a mug of hot water but anything is better than nothing.

Thank you all, it’s slowly gotten Lowe to the 37 mark. Started creeping back up today so I’m on the paracetonal again. All these stories I’m reading about have just freaked me out!! Wow I love marmite but have never drank it, there’s an idea thank you!

What thermometer are you using? In ear home thermometers are notoriously high reading. Hope you’re okay

Deer1981 · 28/03/2020 19:31

I’m using a digital one. Also had some nausea, is that more likely to point to flu or could it still be coronavirus?

It could be either, and it could be anxiety. It is a really difficult time. Is it one you put in your ear to get the reading? Has it been calibrated recently? Do you feel hot to the touch on your chest or back if someone else touches your skin?

Deer1981 · 28/03/2020 20:09

Yeah I do suffer with health anxiety as it is so this is just a nightmare! I took paracetomal at 4pm and so far feels chest and back feel normal.
