Financial help for students in coronavirus

Does anyone know if there is any financial help being offered to students who normally work a part time job. I work as a barmaid on a zero hour contract and as this bar is now closed due to the virus I have no way of getting income?

Doo you not get a student loan to live off ?

Babyroobs - Even the maximum student loan is not enough to cover rent in student halls or private rented houses in most UK cities. Students either have to work or have a financial top-up from their family. For students who can't get family help, a part time job is the only way to survive.

OP, I don't know what the arrangements are for zero hours contract workers but I would imagine you come into that category, student or not. Good luck - I know this is tough.

Speak to the bar about furloughing you? I believe it applies to zero hours too.

My just turned 18 year old son started a job in a night club on 0 hours the weekend before they were all shut down. He worked one weekend only. He has been told he can be furloughed even though he only ever did that one weekend.
He has had more protection than my teacher OH on a long term supply position. He's been taken down to 3 days pay/work. Which given he should be furloughed on 80% if they couldn't afford to pay him his regular 5 days.... no they want him to still work rather than furlough him, but he has no protection for them just reducing his hours down to 3 days.
