I'm sick of morons using the pandemic as a reason to spread lies and terrify people further

I've just bitten (i know, thats what they want) and had a go at some twit on social media for spreading rumours about the virus. I've seen alot of conspiracy theories but this one takes the biscuit.

Apparently the pandemic is a smoke screen to distract the world from a meteorite that is going to collide and obliterate the earth and every organism on it. Boris Johnson has told people to stay at home because he wants everybody to spend their last moments with their families Hmm

I know it's bollocks, but I'm also on medication for severe anxiety as a direct result of what is going on and when I read things like this it does scare me for a second before I come to my senses. I'm not the only one to be unnerved by the ramblings of these idiots.

People are living in an extremely heightened state of anxiety as it is, frontline NHS workers are risking their lives, and it's all being undermined by these utter bastards who want to frighten people even more than they already are.

It should be criminal to incite such panic, people are killing themselves out if fear and desperation as it is. Something like that could tip a particularly vulnerable person over the edge Sad

As conspiracy theories go, that's a cracker!

So much of What we see on social media is bird sheeph

EmpressMcSchnozzle · 27/03/2020 04:09

Blimey. I love a good conspiracy theory but that one tops the lot so far!

Wanderlust21 · 27/03/2020 04:14

Haha that's brilliant. Sorry but I just find that one funny.

Doesn't work though as a lot of people are isolating away from some family in order to protect them.

But if it was real, we'd all be wiped out before we knew anything about it anyway. Maybe a 'Oh that's an awfully bright sta-'.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 27/03/2020 04:19

Well this would make for a great movie, if we weren’t living it. But imagine years from now people live back and somehow romanticise BJ into a Mr Darcy figure 😂

Lockdownshockdown · 27/03/2020 04:43

I think this crisis is showing alot of people for what they are, and also business.

Honestly, I think social media should be taking stuff like that down. Some people believe it and it does cause panic.

Theres a 'business' based where are called Yappapp. They encourage people to be their reporters and send them video and photos of local 'stories of interest'. They are regulated. They do what they want. Last year they published photos of a mans body who died in an awful accident. A few weeks ago the publish photos of an ambulance crew turning up to a house in full hazmat gear saying corona had come to our area. If you lived local you could and identify the house, street. Everyone who lived there knew who it was.

It wasnr even vaguely corona related. The lady had fallen over. People were panicking, thay corona was in their street. The poor woman was yelled at when she left the house a few days later. It caused loads of distress and they wouldnt take it down. Despite the family pleading with them to retract the story.

Fake crap, designed to upset and cause panic shoildnt be allowed.

Unfortunately, the world is full of dickheads .

TheClaws · 27/03/2020 05:48

Oh, absolutely. I tend to think if a theory has more than three or four steps, it’s not true - so, ‘The turning-on of 5G across the globe, sequentially, is disrupting our bodies at a cellular level, causing COVID symptoms. This is a planned operation of a shadowy global cabal with the twin aims of depopulation and dominion ...’ (The 5G theory, BTW, has no weight because, physics.)

So the simplest theory is usually the right one. As a human race, we were due for a global pandemic. They simply happen on a regular basis. The source of this one was most likely from the wet market in Wuhan. Boring when there are so many other exciting theories to choose from, but there you are. I think people look for intrigue and deep state shenanigans where there isn’t any to find.

RJnomore1 · 27/03/2020 05:53

You mean it’s not an alien invasion after all?

Persipan · 27/03/2020 05:56

Well if nothing else it's given me a laugh at the idea that Boris Johnson would be in the least bit bothered about people spending time with their families!

EmpressMcSchnozzle · 28/03/2020 21:54

The bit that made me chuckle was the bit about BJ being a Mr. Darcy figure in years to come....Aaaaaaggggghhhhhh, now I know we've somehow slipped into a bizarre parallel universe!!!

RightOnTheEdge · 28/03/2020 22:03

I thought about this today because some one I know had posted a picture on Facebook that said that if your child is taken to hospital you won't be allowed to go and they would be taken away by strangers and be all alone in hospital. Which is not true and a quick Google would tell you that.

It's horrible to be spreading lies like this and adding to people's fear.
I was going to comment saying something like thankfully this is fake/untrue but I think it had been removed. It had already been shared a few times by then though.

Badbilly · 28/03/2020 22:06

I think some tin-foil hat wearer has got hold of a slight truth (there is a new comet, not an asteroid) and extrapolated it out of all proportion.

I am useless on this phone at doing links, but google comet ATLAS for more info, as it will be visible with the naked eye within the next couple of months, so the rumours will really go mad then.

Port1aCastis · 28/03/2020 22:06

Oh FFS and here's me thinking it was germ warfare but wrong !!

turkeyontheplate · 28/03/2020 22:09

Nah, doesn't ring true.

As if Boris Johnson would give a flying fuck about people spending their last moments with their loved ones.

WomanIsTaken · 28/03/2020 22:16

Dontcha know it's a ruse to get us all surreptitiously data chipped through vaccinations to close something referred to as the "ID-gap" (Project ID2020 or some such...).
Honestly, my FB feed is full of this stuff. They're all climate change deniers as well. I'm afraid I bite all the time.

Roostersmum2 · 28/03/2020 23:44

The pillock has now removed it from his page, I don't think he was expecting the negative response he got from people on there.

What did he expect we would say? Thanks so much for frightening people.

In hindsight I do regret not pointing out one big flaw in his "Boris wants you to spend time with your families" claim

We have been explicitly told not to visit relatives, he must have missed the briefing
