Should we still pay our cleaners etc in full now that they will be able to claim 80% earnings?

Just wondering what others will be doing?

We have a fabulous cleaner and have been paying her in full (£50pw) even though she hasn’t been coming because of all this. When Johnson said the lockdown was in place for 3 wks we paid her for the 3wks and said let’s see where the land lies after that. More than happy to pay her.

Pleased to see that the chancellor will be covering 80% of earnings for the self-employed with a lump sum for them in June.
Reading between the lines then we should expect to be in lockdown until then.

Those with cleaners, childminders etc do you still intend to pay them in full? And if so would this be until June or afterwards as well if we are still in lockdown? After all they have still got to eat and pay bills until they get the money through, but then again if we all carry on paying in full they will be on full money plus the 80% grant on top.

We are both keyworkers working full time so will be getting paid. The housework falling by the wayside already so we really appreciate our cleaner!

I don't know.
Like you - I told our cleaner not to come, but I would pay her. It seemed the right thing to do. I had no idea that the Gvmnt would step in with such strong measures, so quickly.

The Grant is based on three years of accounts. If she had two bad years out of three she’s screwed. It’s not available for anyone employed for less than 12 months. If that’s her, she’s screwed. It’s not payable till June. Which means until then she’s screwed.

You use the above info and what you know about your cleaner to make the decision that pleases your conscience.

He said if they have less than 3 years they would use what they have, its just averages over 3 years. They need at least to have filed for 2019 and if they haven't already they not get 3/4 weeks to do so

I'm paying as I told her not to come. Will consider further in a month or so.
