I’ve just been told off for panic buying

I had a super market delivery 3 weeks ago. It was a large one as I had asked four other households did they want to share with my delivery.
So I had groceries for myself, family and neighbours.

Another neighbour who I don’t know has come over to remonstrate with me. I explained and I think they believe me.

I feel very awkward now. I have another delivery tomorrow and I have done the same thing again. It was all ordered a couple of weeks ago before the neighbour complained. I wonder if I should cancel?
We need the groceries as I’m in an at risk group, I have ordered items for a pregnant lady up the road and for my sister and brother who have asthma and are self isolating.

What a mess.

Only you can know whether you're buying in an unreasonable way. If you're buying for many others then that's fine. Although you may find this bulk buying a problem now that supermarkets have restricted purchases to 2 or 3 only.

Perhaps you could ask if she'd like you to include some stuff for her next time?

Another neighbour who I don’t know has come over to remonstrate with me.

Has he come over today? Or did he come over three weeks ago?

speakout · 26/03/2020 18:51

I'm not really understanding this story.

So the neighbour has only just complained, but decided to wait three weeks after the original order?
And by amazing coincendence the day before the OP gets another load of shopping delivered.

Why did the neighbour wait three weeks?
And does he know another delivery is due tomorrow? Is he telepathic?

Can someone explain this to me?

Coughsyrupsucks · 26/03/2020 18:52

You’ve not done anything wrong, I have a big shop coming on the 1st April and that it, I don’t know when I can get another shop delivered. We are self isolating, there’s three of us and that might have to last a month or longer. Tell them to do one!

SunshineCake · 26/03/2020 19:00

FGS don't be silly and you really don't believe you should cancel.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 26/03/2020 19:04

Tell her to keep her comments to herself as you are ordering for four people and ask who made her the food monitor, fucking busybody.

I think the panic buying is levelling off

I think so too. We went to the supermarket an hour ago and it wasn't too far off what I would consider normal for a weekday evening. Everything seemed to be in stock too (didn't check every aisle).

Maybe the "unnecessary trips" headlines today have helped some of the panic buyers calm down Grin

Just ignore the nosy neighbour. I have done the same as you. I booked a slot and get my mum and sister's shopping along with ours as they are both self-isolating for 12 weeks due to multiple health conditions and they couldn't get a slot

Petiolaris · 26/03/2020 20:53

I’ve had the same experience OP. I can quite easily order multiple items - yes the limit is 3 items but I can get 3 skimmed milk and 3 semi skimmed, 3 white loaves and 3 brown loaves, 3 Heinz beans and 3 Branston beans, etc. So I can supply several people and while everyone might not get their first choice it beats going to the shops. The driver had a whinge at me last week and I just told him to mind his own business because people are sharing delivery slots now.

Iloveacurry · 26/03/2020 21:00

I’m doing the same, ordering for my family plus my parents so it’ll be one weeks shopping x 2. They are elderly and couldn’t get a delivery slot.

harriethoyle · 27/03/2020 08:51

Tell them to STFU. Nosy bag!
