My DH works in construction and initially he was going to carry on working because we are both SE and my income has evaporated and we are not entitled to any help due to having slightly more savings than £16000. However after the PM's announcement on Monday the builder he works for rang and said the job would need to be put on hold. And actually I was a bit relieved although it means we will be using up our savings which is a blow.
However it appears that Michael Gove has now given the go ahead for construction work to continue and my DH's boss is now asking him to return. We have 3 building sites open near us, one at the end of our road for a conversion of a building into flats. One for luxury retirement apartments and also some sports ground improving facilities.
There are also reports online of construction workers sharing photos of hundreds of workers all squashed up together having their lunches and of course the port-a-loos which are being shared by hundreds of workers but of course with no hand washing facilities.
And apparently places like Homebase are still open for 'home and garden essentials".
I mean I have got to the point where I am resigned to spending my life savings on this emergency but why the fuck is Homebase still open? And are people honestly buying "garden essentials"?
