Shopping and self isolation

I think I know the answer to this, but I am questioning myself here. An elderly couple - early 70s and late 80s, both underlying health conditions, have their adult son staying with them. I am doing their shopping for them. She has mentioned that her son will nip out and 'get some bits' at the weekend for them. Surely this isn't safe and goes against the advice, or am I misunderstanding?

You are understanding correctly- the whole household should be self-isolating unless they can live completely separately.
