IKEA still delivering - would you?

I know, it's definitely non essential! I promise I'm taking all this seriously - I'm a teacher and I've just got home from a secondary school with 12 kids in it Sad

We're decorating DDs room (teenager) as a way of keeping her busy and positive. She needs a new bed and some shelving and stuff.

They have closed all stores but are still
delivering using 'contact free' deliveries.

It just seems a bit weird to be ordering furniture right now. Would you?

Yes. We will be ordering some items of furniture online.

The economy needs to keep going.

peoniesarejustperfect · 25/03/2020 16:32

Yes - def, if they are offering. You can get on with home project and if we all stop spending, the economy will take an even bigger hit. Great to support businesses. They will stop delivering if they feel it's not safe for staff or customers. May be a bit slower than usual.

Reginabambina · 25/03/2020 16:33

Are they practicing social distancing in warehouses?

Frankenheimer · 25/03/2020 16:34

I ordered a couple of cheap tables from them for the kids to use as homeschooling desks downstairs.

I'm expecting them to be left outside the door. So I don't think there's a problem. If there is then I'm sure they can cancel my order!

Spending so much time starting at my lounge I decided to browse ikea earlier to plan how I could rearrange it and improve decor and storage.

I was surprised to see them still operating.

I was also tempted to order. However do remember there is no tips open to dispose of the old stuff currently!

cactus2020 · 25/03/2020 16:40

Would totally do this

Lifesavesocialdistance · 25/03/2020 16:41

Yes and I have a delivery shortly. I'll wear mask, take cardboard off outside straight into bin + any plastic.

Then change clothes and wash and bring product in. Hopefully the product will have been on shelf for ages and it has a cover I need can wash.

Oceans12isCrap · 25/03/2020 16:41

Yes absolutely.

IHeartKingThistle · 25/03/2020 16:42

Yay!

If they are practising safe working conditions then yes, the economy needs to keep going where is it able to do so safely.

If I heard that they were not, then no.

Mysocalledlifexx · 25/03/2020 19:08

Yes i would just give things a wipe down.

KittenVsBox · 25/03/2020 19:12

We had a new bed ordered before all this hit. It was delivered yesterday. We asked them to leave it all on the doorstep (to room delivery offered but we are isolating due to DS1's cough). We took plastic covering off, and straight into bin. Washed hands, brought in. Think getting rid of the old bed might be harder. Not going to contemplate that til lockdown is over.

With DP now working from home & DC at home too it's come to light we need a desk for him to work on. So we've placed an order from IKEA & should be being delivered Friday. We plan on asking them to deliver it straight in to the garage & we'll leave it there until the weekend & deal with it then. Currently self isolating due to both DC having been unwell in the past 3 days.
